Mirror's Edge (Xbox 360 Review)

While EA and DICE are probably best known for the Battlefield franchise, this year it was all about their newest project, Mirror's Edge, which couldn't be farther removed.

Running, jumping and standing still are all part of this rooftop exercise in physical agility - and Matt Keller made the most of his remaining pre-Christmas fitness by taking on one of this year's most anticipated titles. Will it live up to the hype? Or will it, like so many parkour amateurs, fall flat?

Yeah - fell flat for me.

Loved the first third of the game... but as soon as the fighting bits came up, I lost interest. Especially when the difficulty ramped up - the warehouse mission annoyed me to no end. Had the whole game been parkour based, I would have been much happier with it; as it is, once I finished the main story, I couldn't get it back to the shop fast enough (and I had to force myself to finish it).

As for the cut scenes, they were awful. Why they decided to switch from the lush, colourful game engine to poorly animated 2D vignettes I'll never know.

I thought it was alright, it did drop the ball a bit after the third chapter but to me it picked it back up by the chapter 5.

btw mekon i believe the 2d animated loading screens were to quicken the loading time.

Wasn't referring to the loading screens, but rather the storyline animations. Just of the opinion that having them rendered using the in-game engine would have been far more immersive.

i finished it, but agree with you mekon. got pretty annoyed with some of those combat bits, there was more fun sections in the last chapter where you had to scale a bit construction site type room, that was awesome. no combat, just climb

I loved the demo, but haven't checked out the full game yet.

They need to make a multiplayer version of this. I see the main game mode being "chasey", kindergarten style.
