It's time to break out the cake and candles - Half-Life turns 10 today!

If you haven't yet played this one, you're missing out. When Valve launched their first title back in 1998, Half-Life was showered with awards (labelled "Game of the Year" by more than 50 outlets) and praised with stellar reviews (Metacritic of 96%). Since then, it's created a franchise that has sold more than 20 million units - and you can have it all for just 98¢ (US), if you get in before 9:30am Saturday morning (Adelaide time).

I bought the valve pack off steam last night which IMO was better value since it has almost everything Valve has ever made. Plus I got leftfordead with it. was worth it IMO.

*sigh* Such happy memories!

I still have the disk that had the orginal Half Life-Uplink on it. damn, that was an awesome demo!

ah, those were the days.

I remember going into the local gaming establishment one morning to buy a copy of SiN. (I'd been following development of that game for ages) Then the salesperson pointed me at this other new game I'd never heard of before and told me I should buy it instead, it had been doing very well for itself. So I got home, mumbling how I'd been conned, installed the game, and went in thinking "oh it's probably going to be garbage, why did I bother?"

...2am the next morning and I've barely budged from my seat...

Thank you Mr salesperson. If it wasn't for you I would've bought SiN instead of Half-Life and missed out on one of the most amazing gaming experiences ever.

I can't believe that was 10 years ago?

I had fun until I got dumped into an alien world or something, after which I quit and never got around to finishing.

I agree that the demo was pretty impressive.

I remember playing it for the first time and really enjoying it, but then I stopped liking it that much many years later when I found out just how overhyped the community made it, it's good, really good in fact (except the last area) but not that good

I never played the original Half-Life. I think its a sign to buy it nao. I mean 98c.. cmon xD
