If I want to play the game, yes I should have to do something that avoids me getting killed.

Regardless of your feelings about it, its not going to change. If you want to learn to live with it, Marius' advice is sound.

In a way it kindof does suck, as it removes twitch builds from higher difficulties. I've posted on the Battlenet forums to tell Blizzard they need local servers.

But for now I'm focusing my demon hunter on an 80% damage reduction build. Very few things can one shot her.

And people at work actually wonder why I'm not interested in Diablo III.

It appears to be an inferior offering to Diablo II, and I thought that game was **** anyway.

How are you achieving that? Stacking dex or resistances?

The gloom rune for shadow power gives 65% damage reduction for a few seconds when used. Then numbing traps gives a further 25%. So 65% + 25% = 76.25%. Then gear on top. A shield is worth at least another 5%.

I didn't get to test it out much before my last character died, but it will be the focus of this new character.

Shadow power also has an advantage over smoke screen in that it lasts for 3 seconds rather than 1-1.5, so I can activate it preemptively.

I will not get spam or lag issues or any other issues.
Why? I simply won't buy the game.

Really enjoyed Diablo II but not interested in number 3.

It's still a great game. :P

Honestly, I see online only as the future of action RPGs. Too many good things come from the connection. Even if I don't enjoy public chat, I do enjoy pestering people on my friends list and seeing their achievements.

My other ARPG is Path of Exile and it's online-only, though you don't see a huge backlash against that.

In another D3 thread I heard about Hardcore mode and loved the idea of re-levelling and picking up my past life's loot... that made me want to buy it.

Now I read that the core gameplay when I'm playing alone is affected by latency? What the hell is wrong with you people that you're all going bananas over this game?

It's a bit of a crapshoot. Often, in Australian prime time, latency is fine. But you're assured to have a few issues. I value the game I get 90% of the time enough.

My thoughts too! I held off getting this game to see how things unfolded afer release, and I cant say I am impressed at all with it. I have no problems with decent DRM but reading about the lag/latency with huge pings, while solo, is a complete deal breaker for me. Will not be buying.

Well here's an honest review.

In Australian prime, about 7pm to midnight, latency hovers around the 220 area (for me). At this latency, the game is perfectly playable. Skills seem instant.

When the servers come under stress form all the Americans logging on, you can expect latency to jump by another 100-150. This causes some delay sometimes, but game is still playable.

You'll occasionally get redbars that make the game unplayable, but those pass quickly.

The effects of latency get more pronounced as the game rises in difficulty, but most people complaining about it still have stuff on farm, so it's akin to a WoW raider complaining that their raiding schedule is slowed down by a few minutes.

Despite this, there is real cause for complaint, and Blizzard not releasing local servers despite selling 6.5 million copies within the first 24 hours is one of the worst cases of game corporate greed I know of. But... game is still worth it for me.

But you see, that bit there is enough of a complete deal breaker by itself for me, for playing a "singleplayer" role. Far and away not good enough in my eyes I'm afraid.

If gold farming feeds the starving kids of the poor bloke working in a sweat shop for 20 hours a day (even if he is being whipped with the neck string of a spare USB stick and suffering tragic violations of human rights) then I really couldn't care less.

General and public chat channels are like splashback when relieving yourself. Follow my drift and you can see that the humble and preventative sheet of TP before taking the plunge can mitigate an undesired experience.

In simple terms for those missing the point... Turn your chat channels off. If you're not sure how to do that and you have never seen spam then that is because your doing everything correct already by never having turned the damn channels on. Give yourself a clap. Thats how the game loaded up for me as what looked like a wise preset for Blizzard to have implemented into the game.

Think of the blissful silence of your blank chat channel like that soft fluffy sheet touching down ready to play wide receiver. Now everyone's scoring a goal.

And I will add - any further releasing of MMO titles should just add a disclaimer that general chat and global chat equivalents are also trading hubs for third party companies. Just rename global to sweatshop spa emporium and be done with it.
A code is only as difficult to decipher as it's creator is intelligent.
