Borderlands 2 Devs Promising Voice Chat, Frame Rate Improvements

Unread postby News Portal » 21 May 12, 9:13 am

Borderlands 2 producer Matt Charles was answering fan-submitted questions on Friday over on the Playstation Blog, regarding the game's development. His news was mostly positive, saying that many issues that plagued the first game have been addressed. He says voice chat problems that rendered the system "unusable" previously are being worked on and "will be working for everyone when the game launches", and that the game's framerate will "see an improvement over the first game". Head over to the blog to see the full Q&A.

High hopes for this game.
Need a modern non-serious fps I can play.. atm my only real options for fps are RO2/ARMA or CSS...
Still havent brought RO2 Yet..
Dont really enjoy ARMA.
And can only stand so much of the only 2 css maps that ever get enough players for a match.
And theres nothing else out there with a player base most nights.

What they really need to fix is the pvp lobby and system, would be good to be able to pvp vs other players around the world.

The old system was broken, needed port forwarding and was just a mess.

The ingame voip for Borderlands was terrible IIRC, was always-on with no ability to change it to push-to-talk, and was generally ugly. Properly sized text chat would go a long way in BL2 as well.

I found these 2 Q&A's in the interview more interesting than the ones headlining this article!
---------------------------------------------------
Will there be a shortcut button for health kits? Going thru your backpack sucks, especially during battles!

Yeah, that sucked. Pausing wasn’t really fun in combat. It was a tough decision, but we decided to remove carryable health packs and instead fill that need with new relics and shields that can help keep you out of that emergency state to begin with. The result is a more fluid combat experience since now you’re not worrying about when the best time to pause the game is and you still get that fun sense of preparing for a battle by choosing the right gear.

Health Packs will still appear and drop and they will now heal you up in the middle of battle.

Will the max level be past 69?

We’re balancing the game to cap at level 50; in the first game we ended up pushing the cap to 69 through post-launch patches and DLC. I don’t have DLC plans for Borderlands 2 yet but we tend to want to one-up ourselves each time, so… we’ll see what happens!
------------------------------------------------

Interesting decision regarding the med packs, but lets be honest....OF COURSE there will be DLC :)

hmm, I'll be somewhat tempted to have a look at this but I found the original boring tbh.

pouring 5 mags of bullets into something while running around in circles wore pretty thin.

I do remember PS3 gamers complaining about frame rate issues which was unfortunate for them since the game ran smooth as butter on PC.

Hate to buy Borderlands 2 on console and miss out on all the glorious PC PhysX enhancements been added.
