The music game genre has gone from cult status to a multi-billion dollar cash cow in just a few short years. Many of us are tapping away on plastic guitars, banging away on flimsy drum kits and screeching into microphones for hours on end.

That's not enough for Activision though. They want the DJs to get into the act as well, so they've put out DJ Hero, which just happens to be today's 2-Minute Review.

I really fail to see how you can complain about not having control of the music in this game, but not in guitar hero. I think the game is brilliant fun and have been loving it

I got it today after 20mins of plaiyng i'm already on hard it's pretty easy imo

I think this review missed the point entirely.

But yeah I agree with bol7z, now that I have a properly functioning turntable (returned my previous as defective) the game is fairly easy, there are a few hard tracks, but the gameplay for them is too messy for it to be really enjoyable I think.

Once you've content with your abilities and have all the tracks as MP3s, the game is fairly useless. I kept the game more than 7 days and I wish I had returned it.

3.5 stars, not a whole lot to keep you playing, but like I said, I think this review missed the point, and doesn't actually do the game justice.

I watched some videos of it, and it does look easy even on Expert. I'll stick to Rock Band.

I'm just curious how the review missed the point? You only gave it a half star more than I did, and say you wished you'd returned it. Did we dislike it for different reasons?

Good review, seemed right on the money to me.

I have all the guitar hero's, guitars aren't my thing, I have proper DJ stuff at my place, this feels pretty right on expert, it's fun and for us people that don't like guitars and want something new I think this is the way to go, it's got the concept down, I think it's rather nice, I won't be returning mine I don't think, it's a very different approach to these type of games.

The musics fine, anyone who doesn't like it obviously doesn't like dance music.

If there was more things that they needed it would be more rave style music.

I really agree with quiet alot you said though, it could be better, not bad for a first try, they need to bring out techno tracks >.<.

I think you talked about the wrong things.

You bitched about the cross fader not clicking in the middle hard enough. that itself is part of the challenge. controlling it.

You then bitched about it not giving you control over the mixing. again, it's called DJ Hero, one would associate this with Guitar hero, a game where you are required to copy the onscreen instructions as accurately as possible, resulting in the illusion of expertly creating the track.

I don't rate the game very highly, but I think someone reviewing the latest iteration of rythem game should properly understand the concept and objective behind it.

i understand this is your point of view and that reviews should be seen as that. I just think that irrelevent points were covered and important details were not delivered.

Praise worthy features like the Party Mode, no-gap setlists and Custom Setlists were left out.

A review is not just about the end score, its about telling the reader what they need to know so they can make an informed decision for themselves.

Had an unfortunate run-in with the edge of a sheet of glass. Sliced straight through my palm all the way to the bone, taking out a bunch of nerves/tendons/arteries/generic hand meat. It's a lot better now (7 years later) but my little/ring fingers are still heaps rubbish. Pretty sweet scar though.

As for Titan,
As I said in the review, the crossfader isn't ideal, but you'll get used to it. I still don't like the shonky neutral position, but maybe that's just me.


Guitar Hero works because even though I know I'm only following instructions, it still feels like I'm the one making that sweet music. With DJ Hero I kept being reminded I was button-mashing in time to a remix. The "illusion" wasn't there and I didn't feel the same immersion as I do with GH/RB. The pre-recorded scratching was particularly jarring - I'd much rather learn to control the platter for some sick real-time wicky-wicky action than master a lame crossfader.

I'll revisit the game if they release a mix creation feature, but until then I doubt it'll get much more air time, at least not in my house.

REAL mixers, don't have a 'helper' for the center cross fader, your lucky to get a thing to tell you.

The illusion come with expert, I felt the same way, crank it up to expert and you have to actually recreate the scratches for MOST of them (I won't say all because you will accuse me of being wrong) The first song set should be easy enough to 5 star expert for anyone, the last set of songs, I get 3 ish stars on hard.

Anyone who says this game is easy, 5 star the last set on expert.

go get some real decks or somethign like "ableton live" and do it for real!

I think GoN needs a scoring system for game ratings... one and a half hands anyone?
