Correct me if Im wrong but wouldnt the physical size of the image depend on the dpi of the monitor?

usually it would, but it is common practice to just do it at 300 dpi. That's industry standard (for print based work anyway).

A valid point... I should have assumed that considering the fact I am working in the industry (sort of, I'm not being paid but it is still graphics work for printing etc)
