Creating a dual monitor background from panoramic photos

Unread postby Mugsy » 23 Sep 10, 6:26 pm

I've been using a dual monitor setup for about a month now and want to make my own dual monitor backgrounds from panoramic photos.

I have a Sony HX5V which takes 4912x1080 or 3424x1920 res panoramic photos.

My monitors each have a resolution of 1680x1050 and I run them in extended mode (i.e. it's not one big long workspace).

I'd like to know what program (preferably free) I can use to crop 2x 1680x1050 sections from these photos? Actually, I was thinking of resizing the photos to a height of 1050 pixels first and then cutting two sections of width 1680 pixels (just to make it easier).

im also pretty sure you windows vista and windows 7 has a built feature that can do it.

its called "Windows Photo Gallery", just find the photo you want and click the "Fix" button.

should be pretty straight forward after that.
