This is because solidworks is a retarded program. I use it for a living and it angers me off more often then not. It can bearly import 2d drawings. And their 2d drawing program is horrible and incredibly buggy.
Infact the whole of solidworks is buggy. Why its so commonly used is beyond me.

/End solidworks rant.

OT, this is not a good example of why you should not get a mac :P

Is your machine set up properly? I know a few engineers who use it in a professional capacity and have only had minor issues with it that were resolved pretty quickly. I know it can be fiddly if you some background programs running.

For my money I would use inventor as it has a wider base and compatibility with a ridiculous amount of programs, it will run better on a 64bit PC than a mac however.

Its more program glitches such as, breaklines = your bend notes vanishing, the entire drawing vanishing but leaving all the dimensions then having to do a round about fix to bring it back. Annoying stuff like that.

I suggested Autoinventor but seems the guys who hold the money like the solidworks salesmen more :(

Yeh, i work in backwards company....

That actually sounds like your graphics card is not supported by solidworks, I have had similar issues previously in Maya and 3ds Max on older/gaming cards it's amazing how much smoother it runs when the proper hardware is used.

Odd they didn't like inventor, there are a couple things solidworks does better but on avg I'd say they are comparable programs and inventor has the better interface and compatibility.

Can't say I had any of those problems with 2007 or 2010 versions.
There was another software we looked at, think it was french but I can't remember its name, and it was the only one I've seen which really was competitive in features and usability.
