Glasses-free Arcade Cabinet to Debut Tomorrow

Unread postby News Portal » 8 Sep 10, 8:31 am

The future apparently arrived while we were getting breakfast out of the vending machine. We may have missed it, but it left a note. According to this battered piece of paper, frayed at the edges by the powerful winds of time, tomorrow's Amusement Machine Show in Chiba, Japan will showcase the very first glasses-free stereoscopic 3D arcade cabinet. Which is quite a lot more exciting than your local cinema's Time Crisis booth.

can someone tell me how it does it without glasses? I saw a TED Talk once that had a guy with a infrared set up so that if he moved the tv changed perspective is this something similar?

link to ted talk.

Not quite;

Cinemas the circular polarising is on the glasses on you face, viewing angle is less of an issue. Also due to the screen size you are generally pretty much in front of it.

There are already screens out the have the polarising on the screen or just in front of it, last time I saw one it was pretty bad. Be interested to see what they can do in the confines of an arcade box though, you can generally force the player to stand in a particular spot by mounting the controls there.

I didn't know that the Auto-3D was just around the corner, I was always going to wait for them before checking out 3D (glasses=epic gimmick) but for them to be so close to release is pretty cool to hear

just wondering, can Auto-3D do any of the stuff where stuff pops out to you or is it all depth based?

Wow arcades still exisit? I was on holiday in queensland a couple of weeks ago, And it was the first time in a very long time That I actually saw arcade machines... "Seaworld"...

Yeah you see chocolate machines and skill testers everywhere, And most "decent" pub you'll see a buck hunter etc, but It's been a VERY VEERRRRRRY long time since I've actually seen a proper arcade machine just outside of shops etc like they used to be.

P.S. I don't go into those timezone type places, 14 year olds piss me off, But I have seen them at the movies... But not as many around compared to the older days where they'd just be out the front of shops etc like skilltesters are.

I hate the TV's that you have to wear glasses for, And I hate cinemas where you need to wear them, If you didn't have to wear any glasses and **** popped out at you, That would be freaking awesome, I'd buy a TV like that....

But I would presume it's all depth based and inside of the screen etc. Everything would probably look in the distance, And then stuff would "Popup" too the "front" of the screen... Who knows though.

that's probably how it works as i'm sure i've seen some of those cards that use similar technology and I remember bits of it appearing closer than everything else
