3DS graphics tech details surface

Unread postby News Portal » 22 Jun 10, 9:14 am

The 3Ds is like a beautiful and mysterious stranger. You have no idea what's inside of it or how it works, you just know you want it for your very own. Luckily, while it might take months of dating to discover the cold and twisted heart of your paramour, it's been [news=9262]less than a week[/news] and we already know a little bit more about what's inside that shiny, shiny case: a PICA200 graphics core.

maximum 15.3M polygons/sex

Oh good, because I think one important aspect of a handheld gaming machine is as much polygon sex as possible. I believe this shall deliver just the right amount of polygon sex for my satisfaction.

Oh, so the 3DS is rated R18+ now? With all the polygon sex?

Anyways, some of those features look pretty good. Though I'm not sure how good they are, since I don't know what to compare it with :P

To put it into perspective, it's roughly equal in processing power to a GameCube

Which will make it equivalent to a PS2 and PSP then ...

So Snake Eater on the 3DS is likely not going to be a polygon mess then...

And interesting that no one raised the complaint that it only has one analog stick .... :adminfinger: :adminfinger: :adminfinger:

Is the fascination with 2 analog sticks out of fashion now? :dropmouth:

Still it looks set to emulate the early consoles with a finger print magnet ...

And then later release a version with matte covering ....

with a rainbow option.

interesting also that it mentions the vertex output at 200Mhz (wait... 200Mhz? not 200Hz?)

does that mean we can reach higher ceiling if we forgo 3D output?

yeah this is pretty retarded imo, and its on the same side as the dpad..? doesn't make sense to me at all. if they're only going to use one joystick, it should be on the right with the dpad on the left. dpad for moving/strafing/steering etc, joystick for camera X/Y axis movement/aiming etc.

Alternatively, left thumb on analog stick, right thumb on touch screen? It worked for the fps style games I played on the DS. (with the digital pad instead of course)

This is what i would have thought as well. Why would you want a second analogue stick when you have a touch screen?

Miyamoto apparently wanted it there ....

We won't know the whole story till we get to read the whole transcript of the report.

Still, let's hope it is not as stubborn as the PSP one...

Considering fighting games are coming out on it ...

Super SF 4 and Dead or Alive ....

Wonder if it'll sit well with Nintendo's image especially with the latter option.
or will it have neutered "options" ....

I can't stand using the touch screen for fps type games. I don't enjoy having half the screen occluded by my hand.
