Skyrim disappeared from Steam Library

Unread postby pinkwithhappiness » 27 Dec 11, 11:33 am

Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anyone can help, my bf bought Skyrim from g2play about 2 weeks ago, activated it on Steam, and played it for maybe an hour total.
Today when he logs into Steam the game is gone from the library - it's just like he never had it (except the game files are still on the drive).
Steam support has never been that great as far as my contact with them in the past goes. In fact they have contradicting statements about Skyrim keys on the site (in one part it says they are not accepted, while another part says they are). Have tried re-activating the key, but of course, it says it is already in use.
So thought i would throw it out there to you guys to see if 1) Anyone here has bought a g2play Skyrim key and if the game is still working for you, and 2) If anyone has had any games in the past disappear from your Steam library and what happened?
We've done all the typical googling and not come up with much, so any help is appreciated.
Thanks heaps!

I'd go to steam support and give them as much information as possible

I found that when I go over and above and give them everything at once (at one time I couldnt get a game to work, so instead of just stating/giving specs I got the dxdiag/services list that they usually ask for, and attached it all at once)

try giving them the g2play reciept (print it off and write your steam account name) or you could do the same and lodge a cdkey in use request

cant you just open your c:\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim folder and run the TESV.exe application?
I cant run mine through steam either so I open it via the folder. too easy.

Might be worthwhile contacting g2play as well, I think with MW2 they got a batch of dodgy keys (or at least that was what they said) which resulted in Steam yanking the game from a few people's accounts, however from what I know they gave new keys to all those affected.

G2Play seem to be out of Skyrim keys atm anyway. Possibly try and get a refund from G2Play. Bought my key a while back from Greenmangaming - no issues with them.

Sorry to be the one to tell you this but that site is not legit,

The owner of the site has also previously been connected to fraud cases, and have even been fined for it in the past.

Be aware Game Devs across the board are cracking down on this form of Piracy there are very few legit cd key sites.

Lucky your not in Europe as EA has just banned all of the Origin accounts using the Russian cd key for bf3.

Your Bf is going to have to buy a legit copy, feel lucky that Steam didn't ban his whole account as they usually do. Steam had Skyrim on special over Xmas for $60 dunno if it still is though.

Use them at your own risk then but don't come moaning back here when Steam remove your game or ban your account lol.

Is it really worth the risk to potentially have your whole Steam account banned, that means every game gone just to save a few dollars on a game?

Amazon are legit, they sell cheap games why not got there instead of a Pirates site?

Some people get lucky and have no issues with them. But there's also a lot with bad experiences - everything from them selling stolen keys to russian-only keys to requesting photo id for purchases.
They're very **** shady but every time someone points out all the issues there's always others around to say they're fine.

Not much more we can do to warn people. If people're just going to keep shopping there anyway...

To the OP - contact Steam Support and be open about where the key came from and you might get lucky and get it fixed. But do make sure the bf doesn't buy anything else from g2play, too. :)

Thanks for all the replys.

We have, like many others bought quite a few games from g2play (all Steam activated) in the past, and never had any problems. We probably won't buy from them again though.
It's a shame, we don't like physical copies hanging about and prefer digital, but Steam prices for AAA titles are too ridiculous, which is why we usually buy keys.

I also think it would be nice if Steam was removing a game from your account to let you know....

Anyway, waiting for Steam support to get back to us, g2play responded immediately, saying if Steam were unhelpful to take a screenie of the response and send it to them (So either like Jez says, they will give a new key, or maybe a refund?)

Thanks for the suggestion, but nope - that just opens Steam (which still thinks the game hasn't been bought).

Yeah G2Play always seemed dodgy to me. Give GMG a go next time, bought plenty of games from there and they all work 100%.
