Interesting - I just started with on line gaming, and was wondering why
there was no one playing BF2 on G.O.N. when there are heaps of players on
'Game Arena'.
Just came from an hour there.
Actually, I can't find the games.on.net server for BF2 at all. Tried doing it
manually, just because, but can't finger out how.
So how does type 'gamearena' work ? I get nothing if I type that in the
box on the games server page (same with gamesonnet).
Not that I need to as gamearena servers are easy to find in the list with the Oz filter on.

They used to have about 20-30 back in the day (back when it was the Internode Games Network), then between the sharp decline in players and the change to Games On Net (in the server name), it pretty much killed off the final few players that used the servers. However by that stage the 20-30 servers had already been reduced to about 5-10, and now I believe they have just one server.

There's only one on the server page listing, yep.
Try searching for games.on.net (with the periods) or even just games and filter by ping?

Think you'd be better off with Battlefield4Free at this point though. I don't think anyone much plays it anymore. Not when Bad Company 2 is so much better. :)

We only have 1 server left now, the easiest way to find it is just use games in the server search box, to narrow it down even further use games.on back before the name change all you needed was internode it worked for me all those thousands of hours playing it, now you need to do the 'games, games.on' thing. :(

Mythor considering BF2 is getting quite dated now I still think BF2 wins over BC2 for it's overall game play structure, BC2 only has some eye candy and destructible environments going for it without that and something else better to play, I think it would have died ages ago. :)

the hackers can all stay on gamearena anyway. Game dead, must move on. games.on.net forum members have voted.

That's why I suggested the free to play version, if you absolutely must play BF2. At least people're playing that. :D

BF2 is dated. OK - so is CSS, but lots of people play that on GON,
and heaps still play BF2 on GA.
I don't have BC2, but I thought I'd prefer COD4 or COD-WAW over BF2 or CSS,
but I'm liking BF2 and CSS more.
If only because you can see what's going on because of less clutter, and
BF2's graphics still stand up well. Good detail and sharp. Plus, BF2 has safer
spawn points.

NOTE: No matter what permutation of GON I use the games.on.net server
does not come up on the list but, it doesn't matter - nobody home,
so it's off to Game Arena to join the masses.

I meant it was dated as far as the date of the games release and the advancements in current games, it still is a very good game just with less eye candy, for me BC2 is just like a ramped up version of COD with vehicles, and slightly bigger maps. (except the new ones) ;)

Certain players never liked our server rules (uncap) which was simple, I guess it's why GA is so popular no rules, the server name change so late in the games run killed it as well. :(

BF2 had horrible spawn points most flags had 4 set spawn points some flags had 5 a small handful had 6 points and it was very easy to sit behind them and spawn camp or stand on a spawn point and block them.

It sounds like you might have some filters ticked that shouldn't be ticked, I will have to fire up my game and double check that, to be sure. :dodgy:

Dated - wasn't meant as a contradiction actually, more a confirmation.

I guess the BF2 spawn points are a bit far from the action at times. More so in single player. The bots seem to get the vehicles before you get a chance on the first spawn. BF2 is a big improvement over BF 1942 on most maps, but...
Still, an old fart needs at least a few seconds to gather what remains of his wits, so I don't mind having to travel to the action.

I am only speaking from very limited MP experience, but there didn't seem to
be any camping, except possibly for a few chopper pilots on BF2 last night.
Other than that the more forward positions were being overrun. 50+ players seem to bring the action everywhere.
COD4, on the other hand seems to have someone on the spawn point frequently,
but that may be due to the small maps getting overcrowded at times.
At least with the free for all you can shoot anyone near as soon as you spawn (with a bit of luck), and not cop flack.

The biggest thing of all for me on all these games is the pace.
I new it would be different on-line, but even though I've been playing my games on hard single player settings for a while
(except R6 Vegas 1&2, where the bots are so bloody deadly) I thought I may slide in easier,
but all these headless chooks and jumping jacks (CSS) running amok -
Whew !!! Frantic, what?
