GW2 Servers in Texas - Bad News for Oceanics

Servers in either Dallas or Austin.

According to speedtest.net, <400 to either with Node :(

Makes being competitive in PvP pretty much impossible...

So does this mean we are screwed for GW2 PVP?

Use the -diag switch on your gw2.exe file, not speedtest?

I get around 250ms using that. And experience from previous beta weekend tells me the lag isn't any worse than you get in other MMOs.
Nobody needs to panic just yet.

^ this. The only problem that I found with PvP was balance. Some classes were pretty OP.

also, it seems like the unofficial Australian server will be "Sea Of Sorrows"

I guess this weekend will be telling!

250ms is about the theoretical max to Texas, which would need a gateway/proxy to achieve.

Really hope that we can be competitive in PvP under these conditions.

 I just said I got ~250ms with just the base client.
Not sure what was hard to understand about that?

Happy to be corrected but if you're just pinging the servers, won't that give a lesser ping than if you were actually connected and playing?

It was explained to me that what you describe will give you an idea of an optimal ping, which will likely be different to the actual ping once connected?

Lag during the beta wasn't too bad. Occasionally there would be server lag which affected everybody, but hopefully the cause of that will be fixed before release. Aside from that, I had no problems dodging and didn't rubberband once.
