Opening Internode Gateway for GW2

Unread postby djmrme » 25 Apr 12, 1:10 am

I would like to put it out there now about the possibility of opening ports on the Internode Gateway when guildwars 2 is launched.

The game is currently in beta testing so should have a idea of what pings will be like this coming beta on 27/04/12.

i would like to know who could arrange ports to be open for when game is launched to see if the Internode Gateway could be effective.

Given that GW2 servers are in Texas, I'm not sure how much a gateway or proxy service could improve pings?

So saying, most people on the east coast get <200 pings to the west coast of the US, so maybe somewhere around ~250 would be achievable for Texas?

The GW2 servers will be the same location as Aion. Which means Aussies can expect arount 500ms average if you are connecting from the east coast. GW2 server infrastructure is generally better than Aion's but when sever loads get heavy you do feel it - I was getting 30s delays between actions in the stress test yesterday. The gateway halves my connection to Aion so I would expect that it would improve GW2 as well.

I would really like this I'm imagining the opening few days will be torture for Australians.

Opening Internode Gateway for GW2

500ms? No. 200-250, 300 at the outside for a US East Coast server. GW2 is more in the 200-250 range.

The lag you saw during the stress test is not representative of what to expect in normal circumstances. They were deliberately pushing the limits to see what the servers can cope with so they'd know where to set the limits.
Additionally they were having an issue with their own connection which caused heavy lag for a lot of people.

Not saying the tunnel couldn't help some people but it's usually pretty good, for a server halfway round the world...

I thought the only reason the tunnel worked was a peculiarity with the way the Blizzard servers handled incoming connections? The gateway would just be a UI placebo for GW2.

Latency was 100% fine during beta and stress test for me btw, if it's playable for me in FNQ with a 1500/256 connection then nobody else gets to whinge  .

500 is definitely NOT gameplay latency to expect...

through the entire beta and stress test, the only times i see 500 ms was during the early beta weekend with the massive overload on the overflow channel, then during the stress test.

on all the other BWE, it was around 250-300ms for me...
