The news so far:

Tom Mitchell, son of Barry, is off to the Swans after they gave up their first-round draft selection under the bidding system now in place.

Dylan Buckely nominated by Carlton received no bids from other clubs. Can now make his way to the Blues via their clubs' last selection at the national draft.

Jed Bews nominated by Geelong received no bids from other clubs. Can now make his way to the Cats via their clubs' last selection at the national draft.

Mitch Clark's manager, Colin Young, says his man is likely to find his way to Fremantle. West Coast did have a nibble but they're out of the race. A return to Brisbane is out of the question, too.

Brad Ebert for #33 (will probably go for #28), however if Port decide to bend WCE's over, they could possibly get him for nothing in the PSD. Port have #2 in the PSD, but I struggle to believe that Gold Coast will draft Ebert who has no desire or intention for playing for a club other than Port. He'll surely walk out at the end of 2012 if Gold Coast do draft him via the PSD.

I'm really hoping Port can get Wingard in the draft with their pick #6. The kid is an absolute gun in the making. He's an SA boy too, so that would essentially eliminate the "homesick" trade 3-5 years down the track. He'll probably end up going top 4, so if he's not around at Port's pick #6, I'd try to pick up William-Hoskin Elliot or Dom Tyson. Either 3 will be 200+ game players for any club who recruits them.

As for Jonathon Griffin who has supposedly shown interest in coming to Port - I, along with most other Port supporters are not overly keen on him. He's a spud. I would much rather recruit a mature-age ruckman from the SANFL or via the draft (in which this years draft is supposedly pretty weak on talent).

Marty Clarke, Jamie Elliot (Murray Bushrangers) and pick 67 to Collingwood from GWS for pick 25

Steven Morris and pick 15 to Richmond from GWS for pick 14

GWS trade pick one in the 17-year-old mini-draft and pick 31 to Gold Coast in exchange for pick four and a compensation pick in the middle of the first round

Adelaide trade Jack Gunston, pick 53 and pick 71 to Hawthorn in exchange for picks 24, 46 and 64

The Gunston trade was fair enough, about what should be expected. But in this trade Adelaide give Hawks a third round draft pick (53) but Hawks give their third round draft pick (64) so sometimes I don't see the point in trading a third rounder for a third rounder; I suppose 11 positions difference is why.

And today GWS give Freo 1st round (20) in exchange for an end of first round compensation pick (for Rhys Palmer). This year the end of first round is about pick 27 so it would be worth less than the 20 so why did they trade? But they could hang on to the compo pick and in upcoming years that would go back down to about 19 so they could use it then when there might be a ripper draft. But little trades like that I don't see much point in.

Next years draft is supposedly going to be a 'Super-draft', ala 2001.

Some big name trades today plus more:

Ebert ended up at Port as expected with retiring Chad Cornes and Dean Brogan off to GWS.
Another retiring player Luke Power off to GWS as well in exchange for a forth round draft pick.
Also Ben Hudson surprise return to the Lions for a forth rounder.
Mitch Morton (Rich) to Sydney only worth a fourth rounder in return.
Jordan Lisle (Haw) to Brisbane worth a second rounder.
Josh Hill (WB) off to West Coast for a third rounder.
Matthew Warnock (Carl) to Gold Coast for a third.
Mitch Clark to Melbourne was a surprise as he initially wanted to go back to WA.
Lewis Johnston (Syd) to the Crows for Tony Armstrong, 2nd and 4th, both returning to local states.

This is what I looked at: http://www.afl.com.au/Offseason/TradeWeek/TradeTracker/tabid/10490/Default.aspx

Port did alright with gaining Ebert and Renouf with only losing a couple of second round draft picks plus Cornes and Brogan who they lost anyway.
