i thought everything past the first half was pretty good, i was a little disappointed it didn't go to a shootout but it really wasn't that bad. Everyone knows that the best games are long gone by the middle of the tourney anyway so i was pretty pleased.

Am I the only person who thinks penalties is probably the worst way to determine any game? Let alone a WC final?

No, but nobody has come up with a better idea that everyone can agree on.

Yeah you can bet if his leg was straight when he connected that would have been absolutely horrendous, i cant say i'm really a fan of that ref (Howard WEBB).
I really hate a ref who loves to give free kicks for 50-50 **** right next to the goal, there was one of his calls that was at least 15 seconds after the incident in question took place. You really have to ask yourself : if it takes him 15 seconds to call the foul then did he REALLY see enough of it to make the call?

Regarding penalties its about the only viable solution, nobody really likes it but thats why there's 30 minutes of extra time... sure you could just keep adding extra time but sooner or later the game stops being worth watching because the players are all too **** to continue (im AMAZED that Robben was still moving at the end of the final btw).

yeah robben has such amazing pace and stamina, i was amazed the nearly both teams could still go with no signs of stopping at 90mins+

i still dont know how that kick is not a red card, and there was a few more challenges by van bommel and bronckhorst that no where near the ball and some from behind should be straight red.

I noted that the Spanish picked up pretty quickly that a lot was going to be let go and started giving some of their own back. .. Netherlands were bad early but Spain were the worst offenders in that second half. .. That tug on Robben should have been a free on the edge of the box and red or yellow/red. ..

Often the refs will allow advantage if there's a goal scoring opportunity for the team that was fouled.

watch de jongs leg and the way it buckles on impact

that was nasty, no middle ground, but it was also pulled on impact

that kick to the face *given* to the Dutch team was far more dangerous in my opinion

I like Howard Webb as a ref, he must be doing something right if he's considered one of the top ref's to the IFFHS (International Federation of Football History and Statistics).

Didn't like the outcome, was hoping Netherlands would win. Glad it didn't go to penalties though, because I hate them.
