Soccer Boots Recommendations

Unread postby MessiN » 10 Feb 11, 1:51 pm

Can anyone recommend me a couple of good boots to look at buying for this seasons soccer? I'm a little picky when it comes to boots. Instead of explaining, i'll show you.

The team i'm playing for wear Green jerseys with White shorts. So obviously I'm not after a fluro blue pair of boots.

Please advise me as to which boots tickle your fancy! xoxo

Asics have good football (AFL) boots. I probably wouldn't buy any other brand anymore because Asics are comfortable and prevent less injuries. They have good technology and always searching for new technology. I'm not sure that Asics make soccer boots or if their football boots work for soccer too.

Rebel sports at least online default back to AFL when you ask for soccer boots.

My personal choice is the blacker the better. Reeboks give me the best match for my feet and if I can order 10.5 they always have fitted well. other brands have always been a must try on first and work out at between size 10 to 11.5.

Bit of a grave dig, but have to recommend Kelme boots.
Made out of top-notch leather and I picked them up for under 100 at Baletti Sports in Adelaide city.

Am thinking that I will pick up another pair the next time I am in Radelaide.

Seeing as selling shoes is my job, of those you showed above, the F50 is better than umbro boots. You have much more support in your heel, and as far as soccer goes, it has specific qualities in its moulded shape (if you go into a shop and take a look, you will see). If you take a look at the spikes on the pics you posted, the F50 has more advance spike technology which will give it better movement when you need it(the front spikes that are slim are for running in a general direction, whereas once you start stopping and turning on your feet, the rounder spikes allow you to do so more freely). But the F50 is only really any good if you have narrow feet as the fit gets pretty tight towards the balls of your feet. Umbro are much wider, but if you have wider feet then asics would be a lot better in terms of support. Even though umbro are made with soccer in mind, they don't have any features that can justify buying them over asics gel. You'll find that there is a reason not many specialist sports stores sell Umbro. I wouldn't rule out the Nike T90 either.

Here is a list of what I would suggest to take a look at:

- Nike T90
- Adidas F50
- Adidas predator
- Asics gel lethal tigreor 4
- Asics lethal flash
- Puma V1.10 and V3.10

I can't reccommend something specific to you as I don't know the shape of your foot, so pop down to a Rebel Sport and they will help you find the right boot for you.

PS, had a look at what Aussie said about how the website links back to aussie rules footy; every boot is there, I have pointed out above the ones that are suitable for soccer so if you go to the website they should be there

Came across this thread whilst looking for some AFL boots. I haven't been in store yet, but can anyone recommend me a decent pair of AFL boots. I understand usually there isn't much difference between Football and AFL, but I need/want a pair of light boots. I have semi-flat feet as well, so that's something else to be taken into consideration. I'll have a look in the city during my uni break tomorrow, but I was just wondering if anyone else has/knows of a pair of really decent boots for footy.

For AFL and flat feet I would suggest to take a look at the ASICS range as their boots are normally wider at the balls of your feet, especially compared to Adidas and Nike which tend to get really narrow. The only thing is they are probably a bit heavier than most of the other boots. If you can manage to squeeze into them, Puma make some really great footy boots which are also relatively light. When I played I always went for Puma's, the only problem might be your foot shape.

Cheers, thanks for the insight.
I tried on the Adidas Predator X TRX (these bad boys: http://www.rebelsport.com.au/ecom/rebel ... 08&cat=910). They felt extremely comfortable and most importantly: very light! My only concern was that Size 10.5 felt a little tight (I assume that doesn't help when you're running around for 2 hours straight. It would generate a lot of heat and discomfort, would it not?) Size 11 felt perfect and not tight at all, but it had about a thumb-width length of shoe/boot remaining (in other words, the boot was too long). I didn't really get a chance to try on other boots because I was in a bit of a rush, but I'll definitely go to my local store tomorrow and suss out the Puma and Asics range.

Don't forget you'll be wearing big, thick footy socks. I always forgot to take that into account when I bought my boots :x

Bumping an old thread.

What's the average life of a football boot before you upgrade/buy new boots?

I have my ASICS Lethal Ultimate 7 from last year which are amazingly comfortable but the fabric at the heels is starting to come loose/off the boot itself. I bought myself a pair of ASICS Lethal Ultimate 8's today due to Rebel Sports having 50% off their football boots range. They're the same size albeit 1 season newer, but I swear there's a bit of extra room at the toe-end which kind of putting me off. I might return them as I feel as if I could probably get another season out the boots I have (if they remain somewhat in-tact).

My last boots were Asics Tigreors. Lasted a season and a half, were still in 'ok' condition when i retired them. Went to rebel at the start of the season, they had a 50% off on all Nomis boots, so i bought the most expensive one, which only ended up being a little over $100. I'm pretty sure the things are breaking already. I'll be going back to Asics (im restricted to the 2 brands because theyre the only ones besides Puma that make up to my size boot).

I've only ever worn ASICS due to having wide feet and requiring arch support (I tend to get bad shin splints from time to time). I've been meaning to suss out the Puma range but Rebel Sports never seem to have my size (Sz 10/10.5) when I'm in need of a new boot. I absolutely love the boots I have now (ASICS Lethal Ultimate 7's) but I'm not sure how much more use I can get out of them considering the padding at the back of the heel is starting to wear and tear (essentially leaving my heels rubbing against hard plastic, which is causing blisters!).
