Grand Theft Auto IV hits 1.0.4.0, very quietly

Honestly, you'd be forgiven for not knowing there was a new patch out for Grand Theft Auto IV this week. It's not one of those big, flashy patches that bring with it new maps or characters (or heads), or an update that turns the control mechanic on its head, totally changing the way you play the game...

No, it's a simple, 55MB download which simply makes "Resource management adjustments based on the operating system detected." - I give to you: Patch 1.0.4.0 for Grand Theft Auto IV.

for a lot of people that one change could mean the difference between a game that is not playable and a game that is playable. And being that the one change is 55mb in size, it's obviously a very large change. So for most people it's obviously going to make a very big difference. But if you are one of the few per cent of people who don't have issues with the game, you obviously don't need it.

(I win! I used the word "obviously" three times.)

For the most part is has been observed to do nothing except break mods. A few people have had increased FPS, a few haven't, and most have no noticed any difference.

The previous patches got the game working for me after 6 months of the game collecting dust.
They make a difference.

The patch is still not on steam, then the Rockstar rep tells steam customers to install the patch manually. Sort of defeats the purpose of steam.
