Anno 2070

Unread postby News Portal » 5 Apr 11, 10:41 am

Traditionally, the [app=636]Anno[/app] series has been all about the [app=3956]Sim City[/app]-like construction of complex worlds in the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries – but for the next iteration in the franchise, Ubisoft are looking to the future. Anno 2070 is currently in development by Blue Byte and Related Designs, and has just been announced for an end-of-year release exclusive to the PC. It’s not often you hear that these days, good people of the comp; treasure that warm, fuzzy feeling dribbling down your calf.

The "two factions" thing is interesting - but would it be more interesting than if they stick to the format where you have two cultures, both of which need management and interaction to thrive? Eco providing food, materials, and tycoons producing technology and items?

Hopefully combat gets a bit of an overhaul, 1404 was a bit underwhelming in that respect; but I can see trade ships already in some of the piccies, and there seems to be less obvious "dominant/subservient" buildings like in 1404 (where the orientals seemed somewhat underwhelming with their two tiers of housing compared to the europeans' 4-or-so.

Plus, space pirates, anyone?

This certainly won't be the first economic based game in a sci-fi setting. I'm looking at a copy of 'space colony' on my shelf right now, and i know i have a few others with the rest of my games. Not to say they're very common, but they do make up a noticable chunk of the admitedly sparse economic genre.

YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

Anno 1701 has stolen so much of my life <3 Anno 1404 sits on my shelf awaiting a new PC, and now this!

I don't know why Settlers remains in the limelight when it comes to economy/city builders, it's a hulking POS compared to the Anno series!

I still remember the first time I started a game of 1701. Easily one of the most jaw dropping graphical/atmospheric games I've ever played.

As long as they continue to make combat a secondary objective rather than the purpose of the game, I'm sold. In 1404 I enjoy setting up trade routes across both my islands and avoided combat wherever I could.
