GoldenEye: Source

Unread postby News Portal » 15 Dec 10, 1:14 pm

Despite what other, less critically-inclined websites might’ve had to say about things, we thought the Wii’s GoldenEye 007 remake was a decisively average handling of the license. As luck would have it, the canny minds behind [app=1487]GoldenEye: Source[/app] decided to do it themselves, and do it themselves they have. Their spectacularly accurate [app=134]Half-Life 2[/app] mod, GoldenEye: Source is finally ready to face the public – and what’s more, it’s free and it’s arguably better than Eurocom’s questionable effort. Much better.

A free PC FPS mod by enthusiasts is always going to be better than a Wii cash grab from Activision. You only need to own a Source engine game to play it and HL2:DM is $5 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/320/).

It has expanded multi player, including bigger maps and a professionally remixed score to play along to. Whilst retaining yet improving the look, feel and fundamental game play of the original.

Nah. They might do single player after they're satisfied with multi player.

Can this be downloaded through Steam?
DRM is like kids. The less you have, the better.

You can't download it through Steam, however after installation it will appear in your Steam Library.

I've tried using that in the past, It didn't come with access to the necessary tools (eg. Source SDK Base).

Ah snap :(. Most people should own at least one source based game these days! It would be a shame as you are really missing out on some fantastic games :D

Never been able to play this with more than a handful of people but it was good fun. Killed an admin with slappers, that surprised him, and me too. So many underrated mods for the Source engine.

As far as im aware, "Alien Swarm" (free via steam) will give you the needed Source Engine these days .. ( i could be wrong, but i had heard its the one free game that does give it to you, unlike the nvidia/ati promotions of HL2:DM)
