Quake Arena Arcade Finally Comes to Xbox Live

Unread postby News Portal » 13 Dec 10, 8:37 am

Remember all the way back in 2007 at that year’s QuakeCon when id Software happily informed everyone that [app=2735]Quake Arena Arcade[/app] would be available for download on Xbox Live really soon? Yeah me neither, that’s how long ago that was. Three years on, however, and they’ve finally remembered their forgotten promise. id’s partener in software crime, Bethesda, have just announced that Quake Arena Arcade will be there and be square on December 15th.

Hahah, perhaps I should have said 'competitive' quake on a console :P I actually put quake2 demo on my phone the other day, yay for 5fps! The console version of quake 2 was a little gimped for memory? Some minor changes anyway

There is no way you could get a quake experience with controllers though.. It just can't be done. Try and play quake 2 / 3 / live on a pc with a controller and see how far you get.

Yeah I think it may have been actually. Funny you mention that as it's one of the few quake games I have played In full on a console. Quake 2 for PSX

Q1/2/4 can be played and enjoyed as they feature a pretty lengthy single player campaign. Multilayer is a different beast, and I'm keen to check out Quake for XBLA :)

Ah, some of the stuff I've seen in quake 2 / 3 multiplayer... Some people are insane.

I really liked the Quake 2 single player, Quake 1 not so much. And this was back when Carmack once said "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important."

All I can say is that it's going to be a shotgun/rocket fest. :P

Those game pads just don't offer the twitchyness that quake games need to use the hitscan weapons...

Quake2 on PSONE was awesome, and was my first taste of the quake world. Went on to play quake on PC after that, but i think it really was a good title on psone.

Its funny this pops up now, i just took a trip down memory lane this week and went and play some "Quake Live". Still is a classic deathmatch shooter after all the years.

Were you surprised at the speed of the game? All the modern shooters I've played made me pretty much forget just how fast quake really was. I mean, I remembered it as fast, but this... this game's like crack!

Most games don't even go that fast in spectator cams anymore.

Thats exactly the first thing that hits you again when playing it, everything is so damn fast, you hardly have a moment to think. Its really easy to forget the fast paced action of games like Quake 3/Live and UT99 (not quite as quick as quake, but played that again to this week, and its still damn fast) after playing todays deathmatch style shooters.

Having played both Quake Live and Unreal Tournament (99) again this last week, im amazed at how fun they still are, compared to todays versions of death match shooters.

God Damn! Just thought a few days ago I'd love to play Quake 3 Arena again, Then thought meh cbf installing it again, But then thought It'd be nice if the playstation network has it, It didn't I wish it did, And now, Randomly after thinking all of that this news appears?

My 360 is #$^&ing broken :(, Why are games like this also being "Exclusive?" I really hate the Gaming world sometimes..... Just release it on both consoles, For more profit... Jesus! I would totally have brought it, It might have been the first and only thing even half decent on the stupid Playstation Marketplace.

"Yes I own and have seen both, And can see how miles ahead the 360's Arcade/Marketplace is to Playstations poor pathetic attempt.

Might need to get my 360 repaired and just use it for the arcade stuff! Would love to play some Quake 3 Arena again!

Although I have absalutely no idea how this game will play with the controllers, If you're new to Quake 3 Arena and You think Blackops is quick, Just wait until you play Quake 3 Arena, It's like being on tones and tones and tones of Ice!

P.S. The best part about Quake is the speed, It's not some really easy Point and shoot like these so called FPS now, Which is pretty much a walk in the park with aiming on people, This game requires you to think ahead, I doubt using a controller it'll work all that good to be honest. May need to just re install it on my PC...

P.P.S. Now all they need to do is re-release SOF2! haha

You know about Quake Live right? I visited it again the other day (and yesterday), and instantly was able to get into a FFA, so seems the quake love is still out there!

Controls feel like **** (especially looking around).

Seems something was lost in translation.
