No toolset for Dragon Age 2

Unread postby News Portal » 9 Aug 10, 9:44 am

Long-time [comp=54]BioWare[/comp] fans will tell you there's as near much fun to be had in fiddling around with mods as playing the actual games - maybe more, because you never run out of content. So you can imagine the outrage caused by the announcement that [app=7369]Dragon Age 2[/app] will ship without a toolset, apparently in deference to the power of the console dollar.

I actually haven't even touched the Dragon Age toolset.
Honours Physics takes up too much time. :(

Naturally there's a bit of a learning curve with the current toolset and I've been saying "i can't wait to find some time" for the past 6 months now. To be honest I'd be more motivated if it shipped with a decent level designer.

I think it would be a poor decision for bioware to forsake the modding community since they've already upset the core fanbase with all the gameplay changes.

I don't think It will be a bad game (on the contrary, I think it will be outstanding ) but it won't be the same type of game as origins which is a little sad.

When you are a Dwarf and Shale is standing nearby, it is useful.

Whats the view that we'll be getting? Behind the shoulder? or a very close up view?

French Journalists are jumping the gun on this one.

Here's the clarification of the story:

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic ... 37#4381246

Key parts of the post:

-The tools we’re using to make Dragon Age 2 are very, very close to the tools you guys have used to make your mods for DA:O. They’re not identical, as we’ve made a few in-house improvements, but they’re almost identical. As such, there isn’t a new toolset to release, per se.

While we won’t be releasing a toolset update in tandem with Dragon Age 2, we ARE investigating what it would take to update the community toolset to match ours, along with providing DA2 content in the future.

-As to the subject of tactical view, I can confirm that we will not be doing a tactical view on consoles, though we are looking into some expanded party control that I think will make console players quite happy.

On the PC, however, we are still working with the camera to keep the key elements of the tactical experience there. I was actually playtesting some new camera code when Victor found me, in fact, so I can give you the latest news on that front
