StarCraft II will not have LAN support

Blizzard's upcoming RTS StarCraft II is easily one of the most anticipated PC titles for gamers. It comes as a fairly major surprise to learn that the full game will not include support for LAN play, with all users of the game required to be currently logged into Battle.net in order to play the game with friends.

This news may come to a shock, but Blizzard Vice President of Game Design, Rob Pardo has clarified the statements that he made in a recent interview, explaining that because of the "new" Battle.net that will be shipping with Starcraft II, several pieces of "planned technology" for the game are built right into Battle.net.

OMG really! this is not good, I was going to host an old school LAN on the month it came out. :shock:

well.. Blizzard aren't going to be very popular with the South Koreans then.. their entire gaming culture is built around lan parties- this is a massive stupid move on their part most likely because they want to get more people on battlenet. I'll be pissed if they actually get the nerve to start charging for battlenet.

$12304538 that someone brings out a PVPGN/Hacked BattleNet for LAN anyways.

This doesn't affect me the slightest because 99% of the time if you LAN with someone you will have internet access, even the big LAN gatherings, like MonsterLAN in Geelong has net access. I really don't see this as a problem, where might you go that you can't get internet access AND have a LAN?

Honestly, Blizzard must be retarded to think that taking away LAN support will somehow net them more money.

If anything, it encourages people to work out ways around the battle.net sign in.

Subwoofer: Some of the larger LANs I went to back in my heyday (300+ people) didn't have internet access... No idea about these days though.

You had lag issue with SC? In the entire time I played it over battlenet, I had no real issues with a ping of 200 or so. I don't think it'll be a problem.
