What would you like to know about Max Payne 3?
If the answer is anything more than "a smattering of details that do more to tease than inform", then keep walkin'. However, if you're desperate for news on this particular project, perhaps reading a few vagueries will tide you over until we can get some more juicy details.

Original franchise developers Remedy are currently hard at work on Alan Wake (which was shown off at E3 to great acclaim), so everybody's anxious to see how Rockstar Vancouver pick up the pieces.

i hope its not open world...

Why would you assume they'd make it open world? I'd severely doubt it, given the original two were constructed linear style. (too linear for my taste I might add, but to each their own I guess)

I got the impression it could be open world as well, there arn't a lot of linear games out there with day/night cycles.

Not necessarily. Yeah the "day/night" cycle could hint towards the "open world" style gameplay, but I'm pretty sure an open world engine could quite easily be used to create a linear style game. What it could mean, for example, is that they're using the engine to create a seamless game experience from start to finish, with little to no loading screens during gameplay. What it certainly means that they don't have to go out and create a whole new engine from scratch for the game, just take the previous GTA4 engine and modify.

That's my thoughts anyhow.

so in essence it has nothing to do what so ever with Max Payne, another case of clearly a new game being shoved into an existing franchise in an attempt to guarantee sales from the existing fanbase, eff off

regardless of whether this NEW game is any good the actual franchise of Max Payne is officially dead and I will be boycotting this NEW game just like I did the second it was obvious Far Cry 2 had nothing to do with the original

I don't get what everybody is up in arms about. Honestly, I'm sure the core elements will be there. Strong story, lots of gunplay (aka repeated jumping around corners in slo mo shooting twin weapons at badguys) and the whole noir atmosphere. If they can add a few new mechanics to the game and it works, I'm all for it.

I'm sure the game will be fine, let's just wait for more details surface before we reject it outright.

That "Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis" game was also built on GT4's engine.

All it needs is a kidnapped Dakota Fanning and you got yourself the makings of a Man on Fire rip off.

I think some people don't realise about what happened in the last 2 games. Everyone in Max Payne, Except for 3 people, are confirmed dead. Vinni Gognitti, Vlad Lem, Alfred Woden, Nicole Horne, that lady detective (Can't remember her name). There are only 3 that are alive (Well possibly alive.) Max Payne, Mona Sax (Beat it on hardest mode. You'll see.) and the Chief of Police (He was on the operating table after being shot in the hallway of the Hospital.)

It would be nigh on impossible to set him in New York again. Especially considering he broke Mona out of jail, repeatedly broke police protocol and killed the lady detective! There was NO WAY possible to keep it in New York.

Will be interesting to see how this goes.

Oh and of course the most obvious thing...

Apparently they fired the voice actor for Max and are getting a new one. That is the final blow that makes this game not a day one sale for me.
I will still keep an open mind, and if previous fans still love it, I will probably get it, im just not ganna run out like a giddy schoolgirl and buy it as soon as it hits the shelf, like I might have, if not for all the things that just seem so different.

'nuff said, nothing in common with the original besides the name, it's probably the reason they set it 12 years later to try and legitimize a new older sounding voice actor


they add new characters all the time, and he could easily come back, he did for Max Payne 2 despite what happened in the first game :/

Open world gameplay is over rated, its just an excuse to incorporate travel as a gameplay device and spread out gameplay so that it takes longer to complete-- whilst this works for games like GTA (because 90% of the gameplay is travel) it doesn't work for games like Assasin's Creed 1 for example.. why? because there's nothing to do with all of that space.. its just repeating quests over and over, same goes with FarCry2 which are very similar.

The only case I've seen an Open World game have done justice is Morrowind- simply for the over kill of quests and the brilliant use of the game world in terms of content, there was always something to do around the corner- this is what I felt was missing in their later games for their quests because it became too spread out.

If you want to put in an open world game then the strict policy should be that you need to put as much content as possible into the game- else you might as well make the game linear like Crysis- this is actually where I found Crysis to be a kick ass game-- its just a pity the ending sucked.

With Max Payne I'm going to have trouble seeing it as an open world game.. I agree with the rest of you, its a bit "huh? why'd you do that?" because there's no need for it.

Damn Flavor of the month- I hate those kinds of things. The trick is to make it so if you're traveling it has something to do with the gameplay-- else the point of traveling is to just waste time-- that's why Bethesda soft started putting fast travel in their games (Morrowind being the only one they made that didn't use a fast travel system rather a transit system).

The trick is to provide an open world experience with plenty to do and a lot to explore, I feel that because open world games are so easy to produce now we have terrain generation software (like that seen in CryTek Engines) that all games will soon be open world.. but won't match our expectations in terms of content. I think that's very important for the future of open world games.
