LittleBigPlanet has been having some drama. As Steven Perdikis told you last week, it was discovered that one of the background music tracks used in the game contains two expressions that also appear in the Muslim holy book, the Qur'an. This lead to the game's immediate recall and re-mastering, complete with an unsure release date.

We've just heard from Sony Australia who have confirmed that the game will be delayed, but that they're working towards a 7th November launch for LittleBigPlanet in Australia and New Zealand.

Music with lyrics about the Qur'an equals Terrorism?, I never would have thunk it but I assume this is the issue.

It's a shame really.. I think I can wait a little longer.

Apparently the issue was because versus of the Qur'an were put to music when they are not supposed to be recited to music.... Hence the CtrlAltDel comic:





With that being said, nobody seems to know for sure. Some people say it is the use of Qur'an text, others say it is because of what the Text says etc... But nobody has actually laid it out plain and simple other then the generalisation that "The inclusion of "two expressions", which appear in the Qur'an are said to be the cause of the recall".

Just thought it was very interesting to see Good Game score both LBP and Fable 2 on exactly the same score. Junglist 9.0 on both and Bajo 9.5 on both. For me personally I would tip my hat to Fable 2 simply because I know that LBP while fun would only be a gimmick for me and I'd put it down after finishing it never to touch it again. While I just love opened sandbox rpgs and Fable 2 looks like a fantastic such and I could really see myself playing that with my gf.

But I really don't want to buy another console right now and the games coming out for my pc in the next 3 months will be more then enough as it is. I am also 90% sure I'll see Fable 2 on the PC within the year possibly 6 months anyway.

I don't know; if interesting user generated content pours in at the rate it's expected to (i.e. exponentially), will it even be possible to finish it...?

I believe that user generated content is what the majority of the LBP fans are waiting for. I think I read that the single player campaign is designed purely to get you used to LBP and what is available/can be done, but once everyone starts designing levels and sharing them online, that is when the game will really take off.

That assumption underlines the rascism inhernent in australian culture thanks to the howard government's fear politics.

The problem is that putting the quran to music is offensive. Here's the answer, release a a version a couple of days late for those who find it offensive and give me my game on time. Also release a patch to fix the problem. DON'T go robbing us of our game for another two weeks just because someone is offended, I don't care. Freedom Of Speech: If you're offended, don't listen.

I bought a ps3 last year specifically so I could play little big planet, it's been delayed for over a a year and then when it's getting close, it gets pushed back another two weeks cause one of the songs hurts the feelings of a priest somewhere. Now I find out that if I bought a ps3 NOW I would get the game for free!

I am so pissed.

EDIT: First thing I'm going to do is make a level that will be hideously offensive to as many religions as possible, including my own.

If the gameplay is fairly basic, the sheer amount of user-created won't extend the life much further than another platformer IMO. Generally for the most part the quality of the user-created content will be lower than what has been achieved by the devs who have been using the tools for months as well. I can certainly see the potential fun in creating content using the editor, but I am skeptical that the user-content is going to extend the life of the game to a substantial degree.

Yet in the couple of weeks of the beta, someone was able to create a basic working calculator. I know that doesn't sound like anything amazing, but when you see what went into it (as they zoom out on the calculator) I am guessing it was more work then any individual level of LBP : http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Vv4segUgctQ

IMO user created content will far exceed some (maybe all?) of the stuff put together by the developers, as their main goal was to get it working and shipped out on time (only to be recalled ). Where the actual users have the luxury of just building cool stuff.

im still waiting to see the majority\minority\some\a few\lots\heaps\any\ a couple of the 1.2 billion muslims out there complaining about the 1 track thats on the game...so far all thats been shown is a forum post...

I don't think it has been confirmed that the Muslim community is ticked off about it, so far it has been people speaking on behalf of the Muslim people which is what I find more offensive.
