The survival horror genre of games has typically circulated around paranormal occurrences, or zombies plaguing the Earth. Space is largely unexplored in a survival horror context, but there are however a few notable exceptions such as Prey, The Thing, and Doom 3. These titles use aliens or extra-terrestrial beings as justification for the sheer uncanniness of some of the situations presented to the gamer.

In EA's upcoming title Dead Space, gamers take the role of run of the mill engineer, Issac Clarke, who has his daily routine of tending to space ships change his life forever. Uncovering a vicious alien infestation, Clarke must fight his way through ferocious aliens in order to survive and stop the infestation from spreading.

Issac Clarke... even the biggest sci-fi noob like myself can work out the inspirations for that name.

yeah, it's a very lame (hence totally fitting for ea) attempt at homage. just think, someone made hundreds thinking that up. possibly even a whole team of writers.

i am looking forward to this though, because survival horror = awesome, space = awesome, survival horror + space = double awesome.

The in-game footage presented in the video didn't really seem that scary IMO.

That game sucked balls and pissed all over the movie by adding in a top secret military conspiracy.

The Thing was by no means a horrible game, but I do agree that the film was much better.

Any news on System shock 3? or did ea just buy the System shock trademark so that no one could develop SS3 because it would cannibalize sales of this game.
