OFLC declares GTA IV suitable for Australians

Finally, it seems we have some good news coming out of the Australian censorship board, with the OFLC granting GTA IV an MA 15+ rating, for "Strong violence, Strong coarse language, Drug and sexual references".

This is good news, as I know of more than one person who watched the recent Move Up, Ladies trailer, observed a few blood spatters and announced that there was "no way" Australia would get to play an uncensored version of the game. Looks like they were wrong, and the game is set to be released Down Under on schedule, in "early 2008".

Early 2008 or last I heard was around March/April.

Is that because u live in bendigo ? (spose the town i live in isn't any better)
but it's coming out Q1 2008 as far as i know.

Once we get a date i'll be pre ordering it.

Guessing Bdn is a PC user and assuming it'll come out for PC a year after the consoles.

Just a suggestion for anyone wanting to play it - buy it on the first day you can. Yes, the OFLC have okayed it but that won't stop people complaining once it's released which will draw the attention of the media which will make people who don't even own gaming related paraphenalia aware of it which will draw more complaints which will lead to the OFLC pulling the classification and telling Rockstar to alter the game.
That's how GTA3 got pulled and Rockstar altered the game (so you could still bang the hookers but not kill them afterwards) and re-released it.

Maybe they avoided the situation by not having hookers in this version?

Same here sadly. Although if the PS3 takes a massive price hit in the next 6 months, who knows.

Bout f'ing time I can buy a GTA game without it being taken of the shelves in the week after

I intend on buying mine over the net just to be on the safe side though.
