Considering

Unread postby lucassot » 3 Apr 11, 8:22 am

Hi guys
Considering trying out EVE online. Was talking about it with some mates last night which led me to youtube this morning checking it out. I love the atmosphere and feel of the game. It seems to be extremely in depth and detailed.

I basically don't have all the time in the world, is it something that you need to be playing every day to enjoy properly? Or can you hop on every couple of days and play as you wish?

From what I've seen it's very intriguing, the economy, territory control etc. Seems fantastic. Any thoughts / recommendations?

This is the best thing i can tell you. In the first day or so of you trial you will decide you love eve or absolutely despise it. It has a very high learning curve in comparison to your typical MMO such as WoW. see pic below

If you do decide you like it, don't get discouraged by the amount of time it takes to train up to a certain skill. Almost every player corp/alliance will accept younger players. There are also alliances such as Eve Uni that bring new players up to speed. Eve Uni Website - http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Main_Page

As for play time it is a game you can play for an hour a day, but you will be limited in somethings you can do within that hour. For example a level 1 or 2 mission in high sec might take 10mins tops whereas a wormhole site might take the whole hour. There are things that you can get into that will generate a decent amount of isk (in game currency) without much effort. Things like playing the market or Planetary interaction. My current PI set up I only touch every 12hours and i can set that up for longer if needed.

Hope that answers a few questions. I know the Eve guys here and myself are happy to give advice on the game.

Rofl @ the pic! Learning curve is no issue for me, have played many games with steep learning curves and actually enjoy the depth of these games. Sounds good in terms of length of different activities. I got the tab open for a trial at the moment but haven't signed up yet. Thanks for the response :)

3 years? wow. I played it for a couple hours last night with a mate of mine. It has such a good feel to it I must say! A lot to take in, currently on 6/10 for the starting military missions.

Funny moment, I looted some new gun and equipped it but at the time didn't realise they need ammo. So out I go for my next mission going against 2 pirates I think it was and my gun not shooting. Panicking I warp out and equip my default gun hehe

Haha.

Was annoyed last night, only had about 20 mins to play before having people over and tried to do a mission of locating and destroying this facility. I couldn't find the 'final room' so I had to log off without completing it. It said the mission expires after a certain time, so if I cannot play in time does that mean my relationship with this certain agent goes down and mission is failed?

Make sure you read the mission instructions REALLY carefully - my younger bro just started playing and he's found missions hard until I explained that point to him... Keep an eye out for acceleration gates (leads to different parts of a complex) and make sure you have large collidable objects active on your overview.

If you fail to complete a mission, you can do that every 4 hours without a standings loss...

Just careful with this fella, he has some history with "free ships", no offense intended Headhunter :)
Best advice I could give is to make sure you have mates helping you along and that you have fun. Also, be very wary of people offering to sell you things in contracts, make sure that Charon Ship your after is not actually a lump of charcoal, or the Fleet issue ship you want is the real thing. There are a lot of scammer's in eve
