Those are my feelings. A bit of a BSG lite but without the good bits (epic space battles for one, which were promised but never delivered), the writers just simply don't know how to write this kind of scifi and drama, a big part of which is that they can't stick with a story, anything new they introduce is gone within an ep or 2 (seedship and those aliens, twin destinies, the list goes on, it works in SG1/SGA, but not here).

The real kicker is that SGA started off exactly the same. Season 1 of SGA imo was pretty zzz, it wasn't until Season 2 when the show got good and was able to create its own identity separate from SG1. The thing is it would never have been able to do this if it had replaced SG1. Being able to watch SGA on the side to the main event of SG1 was what allowed SGA to slowly improve and figure out what it wanted to be. SGU never got that chance given SGA was killed off to make way for it, all we got was this average to poor show with nothing else.

The ratings and timeslot bs would've been a killer too. There needs to be a new scifi channel seeing as the old scifi channel has forgotten that it's a scifi channel.

Shows these days aren't given a chance to be popular, if the executives don't really fancy the idea then a show just gets put on tv at 10:30pm after the first 2 episodes and then they start jumping it around in the schedule, basically they decide what they want to be popular before we ever get to see it. It was the same with BSG in Australia, huge launch and then they killed it off themselves.

Personally, I loved SGU right from the start. I liked the feeling that they were right on the edge of survival and could be wiped out at any time, I liked the focus on developing character stories. And Robert Carlyle was just awesome.

I remember the later series of Stargate were airing at 12am. >_< This is a big thing for why I don't watch TV anymore, I remember watching a bunch of shows and then randomly their times would change and i'd miss episodes so there'd no longer be a point in continuing as I missed story. That and Channel 7 was ALWAYS 10 minutes late for some reason.

I think TV show creators need to start using the internet and just skipping the networks like what other mediums are starting to do.

I quite enjoyed it but it wasn't quite right for the mainstream, too much science for the drama buffs and too much relationship **** for the science fiction buffs, really all they did is show a glimmer of potential and then waste it for a season and a half.

That's what BSG did and it did it much better. The show had hints of potential here and there but overall it was too slow and the drama came across as irrelevant soap opera nonsense that was painful to watch because of how badly written it was. I seriously wanna punch whoever thought it was a good idea for the people who used the communication stones to go and have *** with others. That's some sort of violation right there.

Too much character development squeezed into the first season. Sure it's needed but not all at once. For a show that was designed for five seasons then they could have spread it out a bit.

Plus it was like they didn't know their target audience. If SGA had been able to continue then I would agree that SGU would have had a better chance. People would still have what they liked and then they could also get used to the new format.

One of the things that did baffle me was that with an audience that would more typically associate themselves with Eli, they seemed to favour the Jock more then the Geek. Lt Scott was just not likeable to me, although Greer was a champion.

Scott was ok when he wasn't doing relationship stuff with Chloe. Greer was pretty cool I agree.

The character that pissed me off the most out of all of them however was the doctor. She just screamed fake to me, such an unrealistically emotional mess, especially bad seeing as she's in the military.

Gotta say I was real excited about the baby storyline and watching the child grow up through the years/seasons. It would have been a real interesting story the struggles of raising a child in such a situation. But of course that storyline was just to cover up the actor who for some reason thought it was a good idea to get pregnant right after landing a role in a TV series and as such they shut down that storyline as soon as they could too.

I think i'm more annoyed about all the wasted potential than that of the show being average tbh.

Greer was the best character of the lot, he was truly the only one who was really sane.
