Yeah that's right. Either you have to commit half your budget on extras, weapons and armour or you are stuck doing it in a dodgy fashion where you film the same 3 cavalry riders but from different sides... :D I think audiences can see through that one now, and given the much publicised big budget of Game of Thrones, it would have looked bad to half-arse a battle scene. And even when you throw bundles of money at a scene it can go wrong too, so they are risky.

I was disappointed at the lack of battle scenes, sure, particularly from the Whispering Wood, since that is a battle that often gets name dropped in the books. But I guess those who only watch the TV series won't have to worry about that - it probably won't get mentioned at all.

For gods sake I was only joking about the budget thing hence the wink I gave. :/ Why do I even bother when I have such a sh!tty reputation these days people will start to read into things that aren't there.

I am interested in seeing this series ok and the first one I did feel was good and that's the last i'm saying on the matter.

The series is really good, but I don't think you are ruining anything by reading them. I watched season 1, then read all the books and it was good to get the little bits you miss. Also added to my excitement for the next few seasons immensely.

While i'm not excited per say i'll be watching it to see what happens next. I hope they don't cheap out on big battles like what they apparently did near the end of Season 1.

There's nothing positive in that post, and with it being your first in the thread it kind of set the tone for your continued contribution. My comments that you quoted were directed at the above post, not your reply to mine.

from the amount of the-books-are-better going on around here, I'd rather not read the books. maybe after they have finished with the TV series.

it may have added to your excitement, but chances are they will miss something and you will notice and be all disappointed or angry about it.

This is a worry for me as the series progresses as there are little portions of dialogue and smallish events that will no doubt be cut somewhat due to time contraints. Though I think other people who have read the books will agree that the changes made to dialogue, etc in the first season actually did great justice to the book.

The series honestly didn't miss anything I was mad about, it changed some events but I am more then happy to allow them creative license.

I believe they compliment each other rather than contradict/spoil.

Edit: put it this way, when I imagine the events of the books I see the actors from the show. Its awesome putting faces to the chars.

^^That's a slideshow of characters (new and old) from the upcoming season. I'm really excited by the casting as they've got some really seasoned actors to play some key roles (Davos, Stannis and Balon in particular).

They did an excellent job with casting, can't complain about any of those choices.
