Hmm they also cut out the battle of Whispering Wood(i think thats right) where they capture Kingslayer. Although that was rather inconsequential as well.

I think I speak for everyone when I say we want to see some large scale battles!

The events at Kings Landing should be epic. Not to mention north of the wall and east to the Iron shore.

The whole Daenerys storyline gets pretty gnarly, would be good to see that done justice.

Indeed, after watching S01 I immediately started to read the books, really hoping S02 is a cracker.

Its been a long time since i read it but i think the book told of that battle from catelyns perspective, so the series it seemed, to me anyway, quite faithful in that part.

How was I hating? I LOVED GoT and I've read pretty much all the books on the day they were released, I LOVED the series. That battle was one of the defining points in Tyrions character where you start to think "maybe he's not the person they say he is" and it served to really spice up that portion of the text, the only reason they DIDN'T film it is that they made the first series as cheap as possible because they had no idea if it would bomb or not.

Hopefully they don't cut some of the important ones.

My bad Neko. In isolation your comment isn't what I'd consider "hate". I guess the tone from exe's post kind of bled through when reading the thread.

I am a long time fan of the books and read them all when they first came out. I have not read the first book in ages - but I also remember that battle as being one of the first times you hear of 'the Mountain' and his relationship with his brother 'the Dog/Hound'. Who both are important Lannister Henchmen. Isn’t there a great line where someone tells Tyrion to stay behind the Mountain during the Calvary charge because he will draw all the arrow fire?

Having been down memory lane - IMO the screenplay writers have done well to trim the fat of the novels, while still keeping it interesting as well as an epic drama.

Having said all that - looking forward to more Pew Pew in the second season.

The problem with epic battle scenes is that they're really easy to screw up and when you do it's never minor, a battle is either awesome as hell or looks totally wanky and there isn't much middle ground.

I read the first book ages ago. Completely forgot all about it and getting the rest of the series. When game of thrones came on TV i remember thinking while watching the first episode that i'm sure i have seen this before. During the 2nd episode it clicked and i ran to my bookcase to find the book :D

I have since read the second book and am finishing up another fantasy series (Farseer) and then moving onto the 3rd book.
