That's correct Bek, also there's another episode, finishes at about the same spot as the book i'm pretty sure.

also regarding some of my earlier ****:
Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have said that they would delay the introductions of several key characters first appearing in A Clash of Kings until the third season. They did so because of the large number of characters already introduced in season two, and because they couldn't afford to have people "waiting around" for their characters to become central to the plot.

It was later confirmed that, of the characters missing from the adaptation of the second novel, at the very least Edmure Tully, Shireen Baratheon, Vargo Hoat and Ramsay Snow will all appear in season three.

So we still get Vargo Hoat  Hopefully Shireen means Patchface too and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Reeds.

In case anyone was wondering about the fight near the end (tv spoilers):

Hidden: show
Stannis screaming and his men being routed so fast + the shock on Cercei's face + Tyrion's confusion as he passed out is due to a subtlety some people might not have noticed: That horse and armour Loras was wearing belonged to Renly Baratheon, half of Stannis' troops came over from there after he was murdered and at the end they all thought it was Renly back from the dead.

Wildfire FTW and Tyrion for president!

Hidden: show
Tyrion's wound at the end makes no sense, to get such a wound shouldn't his face have been sliced off? (he certainly acted like it had)

I assume the fight in the book was a lot larger and more epic, although it was cool it felt a little anticlimactic the fate of a large city being based solely on a tiny door. Also you were just kind of told the battle had been won afterwards, I guess they literally ran out of time for the episode?

Also was Stannis's fleet destroyed? Looked like maybe 7 or 8 max ships got blown up and then he still had poop loads of troops to go to shore with him. The explosion was pretty epic at least.

The Hound was pretty cool this episode as well.

The result was the same exe but if you were wondering, here's what happened in the book IIRC:

Hidden: show
"The mud gate" sits at the base of a river that runs along kings landing, the Lannister fleet ran up river and Tyrion had a massive chain constructed between 2 guardhouses at the mouth.

When Davos' half of the fleet entered the river to get to the gate(pretty sure we're talking "Amazon wide" river here, it's meant to be huge) they drew the chain up behind them and spilled all the wildfire into the river upstream, they all got blocked in and half the fleet either burned or wrecked against the chain/eachother, instead of firing that arrow Bron commanded the winch house.

At this point Stannis has landed on the opposite side of the river(to avoid the flames) and they use the wreckage and their own boats to construct a bridge over to the mud gate, the hound wigs out a bit worse and pretty much just goes batty because of the fire and then Tyrion leads the charge to repel the troops coming over the river.

They're **** and Tyrion gets slashed (his nose comes off) pretty much the same as in the show, at this point Stannis has pretty much landed his whole fleet and they're going to win, then Renly (Loras Tyrell in his armour) takes them from behind with the entire Tyrell host and the men (formerly Renly's men) break and flee back to the ships.

That might be slightly wrong as it has been a while but what they produced for the show was at least a reasonable alternative, though I was hoping for a burning river (which doesn't appear to exist aside from the opening cutscene).

They did it very well IMO, this episode was much better put together than most of them, especially considering it wasn't the finale.

Me thinks I know why that didn't make it into the show. That must have made up quite a few chapters.

Basically yeah, it would have been WAY too expensive to film and adding the set up might have stretched it another episode.

Did you know that that episode was written by George Martin?

All that water looks like the sea, is it meant to be the sea or did they change it or something?

I assumed that they just decided to leave the river out so as not to complicate the set.

For reference, the mud gate is figure 18 in this diagram:

seems like their budget for the fight was pretty low - to be honest i have preferred them dodging fighting in the series so far, either do it well or not at all. tonights ep seemed pretty b-grade due to the small scale fighting, they talked about stannis having 100,000 men, yet 50 killed on shore sorted it out :/

looking forward to next week!

They seem to lack the will to film on a larger set, even if it's just an open field for a battle, probs the director just doesn't like doing it. That's not always a bad thing but series like Rome managed to make to make their smaller sets feel more alive somehow, to me King's Landing doesn't feel like a real city.

holy **** when that **** exploded. I was like WOAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH really loud IRL.

it was awesome.

when I saw the ship float out on it's own it was obviously going to be a suicide ship with the ****, but I thought it was going to make a small explosion and hurt a few boats, and morale. but that **** explosion. damn.

Yeah the series in general feels really tiny in scale despite everything supposedly being huge. Shooting exclusively in such small sets doesn't help nor does the general lack of extras.

I think using Dubrovnik as the KL set was a big mistake, the shots are too close in to appreciate the architecture and all you see are bland stone walls, they would have been much better served by building a couple of streets out in the middle of nowhere and using some creative camera work like Rome did, even a dodgy show like Spartacus somehow managed to make Capua feel more alive than King's Landing is.

I guess it's for budgets sake but much of the world just doesn't give the right impression, places like Harrenhal we got one shot of the towers and then everything was all enclosed and street level, there's barely even anything melted at all, the same applied to Quarth, it's meant to be a magnificent city and as far as i can tell it's composed of the inside of just two rooms.

To be fair though Rome did set records for their sets. It just sounds like the budget for VFX on GoT isnt as high as it need to be.
