Xbox 360 Elite Cable Nightmare

Unread postby Ivan » 16 Sep 10, 5:09 pm

Hi There.

Well ig ot my Xbox 360 Elite delivered today and i connected her up, don't get me wrong here, everything is working in terms of, picture, sound, networking and controllers.
But it isn't ideal, not close ... i want to discuss a few things and what i believe the solution is if any, and see if i have this right and if others have a better solution.

I'm connecting my 360 to my 26" computer monitor, when my computer is busy, i can play xbox, the PS3 gets the TV since it is a media centre. So onto issues i wish to solve, almost all concern cabling.

Controller: I was shocked to pull out some batteriess from the box, really? Batteries, ok, so i got batteries, but i seem to lack a cable to connect it to the 360 directly, afterall i'll be sitting next to it and i don't really want to spend money buying batteries. Also, i could connect that cable to my PC for that odd game or two that can use a 360 controller, don't need wireless, but i guess it is a handy feature. So i searched and found this.
http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/support/xbox3 ... rgekit.htm
So i need to verify two things here. Will this work and recharge standard AA alkaline batteries? i think it does but want to be sure. Can this cable (appears to be USB) simply connect to the PC and work? I assume this is what i need? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/XBOX360-PLAY-CHA ... 35abc718b8

Audio: Firstly, i'm using a HDMI cable to the monitor that carries the audio, but the speakers built into the monitor are ... terrible while i have my Logitech Z-5500 with a nice digital optical input, once used for my PS3 till i moved the PS3 to the TV, but now i want to use that with the 360 but the 360 appears to have no optical output, infact, if your using HDMI, it appears to have absolutely no other options of audio output at all. I found this ...
http://www.xbox.com/NR/exeres/41EC5DC5- ... B6163A.htm but if i had that cable (i have the cable but no extra input, must be on another version or another cable your meant to buy) but if i use this, it covers the HDMI and i guess i'm meant to use component and thus i would lose my 1080p res as i didn't think compenent carried a 1080p image? I could be wrongg. So i'm not sure on a solution here.

Wireless: I assume since it isn't built in i just need one of these, i use wireless N here. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT But i need my ethernet port back :)

Thanks for any advice, tips or verification you can supply :)

Oh, feel free to add IvanEBC to the wiki, i need some friends :) although i do not intend to get gold membershiop, so i don't know if i'm able to play multiplayer, or if that means i can only be invited to play and not be the invitee?

Xbox 360 has always used batteries in the wireless controls. You can buy a play and charge kit which will come with a battery pack and usb cable to which you can charge it. You however cannot connect this to your pc to use, your only option there is to buy a wired control or find the wireless dongle for pc use.

I have an elite and when I got mine it came with an adapter for when using hdmi with an optical out and red/white audio. Seems they don't pack this in any more so you will have to buy one. There is an optical output on the componant/vga cable.

Yes you need an adapter for wireless that one is it.

these are the cables you want to have HDMI to the monitor and your audio to go to another device.
