I know a few of you dived in for the launch. Now that you have had a few minutes to get familiar with the PS Vita what are you playing?

I've been enjoying Super StarDust Delta and Uncharted, they should keep me busy for quite some time :D

I got Ridge Racer with the pre-order and picked up WipEout 2048 on release day.

I also have a copy of Uncharted on the way, plus I'm going to grab Rayman Origins and Touch My Katamari and probably a few PSP games.

WipEout so far has been awesome. I love the online integration, getting in-game notifications that someone has beaten a time or score really makes me play more to try and beat them back.

Also I'm loving Near, really cool way of doing it, especially getting challenges and unlocks for in-game items when you run in to people.

Super Stardust Delta is fantastic (but then again, I love the PS3 version to bits as well). Really shows off the awesome screen.

Rather enjoying Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack as well.

Haven't tried Uncharted yet, my son would never forgive me if I played it without him. Hopefully get some time in on it today.

Wipeout looks amazing, but I'm finding the same problem as I've always had with the franchise (be it the original on PS1, or the iterations thereafter... I'm just **** at flying! :P Certainly a very polished package, though.

The integration of trophies is long-overdue and the whole interface is a joy to use. Possibly a touch on the cheesy side (icon-wise), but bearable. I wonder if the possibility for user-created skins might be forthcoming (over and above the ability to change background).

As has been mentioned in a few reviews (on this site and elsewhere), I'm not totally sold on the rear touchpad - it's far too easy to trigger by accident and it seems rather pointless. The only game I've played so far where it makes a modicum of sense is Escape Plan (classic "point and click" adventuring, with a Samarost/Machinarium bent) and you have to be really careful not to brush it.

I got Wipeout and Uncharted though I haven't touched Uncharted yet.

I have had a go at Stardust trial but I can't beat Mekon's score :P

Wipeout is pretty sweet game, I haven't played the series before. I can't believe the quality the console puts out.

This is a great read for new users over at the official blog :)

PS Vita: Our 9 Favorite Tips

Pretty basic stuff and I imagine everyone already knows this, but hey it's worth mentioning :).

I've found these profile settings for Handbrake to be near perfect :icon14:
Watching movies on the Vita is amazing :D

Please open the following directory:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\HandBrake

Then open the file: user_presets.xml

Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<ArrayOfPreset xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
  <Preset>
    <Name>PS Vita</Name>
    <Query>-e x264  -q 20.0 -r 29.97 --pfr  -a 1 -E faac -B 160 -6 dpl2 -R Auto -D 0.0 -f mp4 -4 -X 960 --loose-anamorphic -m</Query>
    <CropSettings>false</CropSettings>
    <Version>0.9.5</Version>
  </Preset>
</ArrayOfPreset>

Paste in as required and hit save! :). After converting a game play video of SSX it made me crave a Vita release, simply stunning and I could have made you believe it was running natively on the Vita.

Apparently you create the lobby on the PS3, then the Vita joins. No idea, their isn't much info. Maybe it will be clearer when the HD and Fury DLC is released for Wipeout 2048 :)

I tried that with various options but there doesn't seem to be a noticeable connection between the vita and the ps3.

Also wipeout looks and plays awesome but the friends score tracking isn't soo good. I have notifications that Jambo has finished a number of events but his times or scores don't appear on the friends high score page for those events.
I remember playing the first PSP, the screen was horrible (though the e1000 model isn't too bad now). The Vita's screen is really really awesome, no shadowing or lag or anything I can see.
The music from Wipeout doesn't seem to be very good quality. I'm not sure if the fault is wipeout or the Vita speakers.

Plug in some headphones to test? Sounds fine here for all of the games and demos I've been playing :) :icon14:

Contemplating if the Vita is really worth it unless you have a PS3. While Sony have said that PSOne games will be coming I really can't see a need for the device at all. I won't say that the graphics this thing outputs are beyond fantastic for its size, but the lack of anything really mindblowing with a story that I enjoy every now and then is just not here yet, if ever. This device should even run PS2 games with ease!

I will hold out for a couple more months before I flog it off to see if Activision brings CoD to it properly in terms of multiplayer. One thing that bothers me is that Sony have clearly invested some time and money in this thing and then given it a lets face it, rather lackluster launch.

Lets go back to the days where Sony actually put some effort into getting some AAA titles onto a console (like my all time favorite game Crash Bandicoot). I look at the launch lineup and I see Uncharted as the only AAA title. Wipeout isn't a game I ever enjoyed and I have no interest in Lumines or whatever it is. Give me FPS, RPG and some more games like Uncharted.

I clearly should've got a 3DS instead of a Vita but I expected to at least see some developers walking out and going "Hey! We're currently developing/porting our title to the Vita! Look out for it soon".

/end rant

I actually wrote a really longwinded reply after reading this line. I deleted it and replaced it with this.

The Vita is not for you.

In other news, I'm loving the fantastic launch lineup and the upcoming games in the pipeline :)

I'd like to chat more and I will probably post a few impressions in this topic but I've been pretty addicted to Motorstorm RC the past day :lol:, it's such a brilliant game for the entry price :D

Hello fellow owners.

I have a quick question. This is my first PlayStation device since the ps1. Is there any PSP titles that would be worth a good look at that I would have missed and are available for download. So far loving Stardust Delta and Lumines, I have Uncharted but have not really got stuck into it at the moment.

Games I have fond memories of on PSP:

Patapon franchise
Jeanne d'Arc (USB only, unfortunately)
God of War: Chains of Olympus + Ghost of Sparta
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (better on iDevice, though - touchscreen functionality wasn't available on PSP)
Badman franchise (it's very random/odd, but I find it addictive)
Little Big Planet (probably best off waiting for the Vita release).
LocoRoco franchise
Marvel Trading Card Game (USB only, unfortunately)
MediEvil: Resurrection
Monster Hunter Freedom
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters / Secret Agent Clank
Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins

And a bunch of titles that were relaunched with Vita ports/remakes/reboots: Everybody's Golf, Rayman, ModNation Racers, Wipeout, etc.

NB: I haven't tried a single PSP game on the Vita yet, so I have no idea how ugly they look/how frustrating it is to not be able to use the touch screen. :)
