Firmware 3.7 - Out Now

Unread postby jpeyper » 15 Aug 11, 6:49 pm

So it's been out for a few days now.

http://au.playstation.com/ps3/support/s ... r-3-70%29/

Not much to write home about if you're not a PS+ subscriber or don't own a 3DTV.

The PlayStation®3 system software version 3.70 update includes the following:

TV/Video Services
(TV/Video Services) has been added as a category to the XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) menu. Video streaming services now appear under Online Storage(TV/Video Services). Some services require that you download and install an application.
The icons displayed may vary depending on the country or region of use and the availability of services.
  • The icons for some streaming services previously located under the (Video) category now appear under the (TV/Video Services) category.
  • (TV/Video Services) category is not displayed in the XMB™ menu when no services are used.
  • Your PS3™ system must be connected to the Internet for information about services to be updated.

Auto-upload Saved Data
You can now store new and recently updated saved data for PlayStation®3 format software in online storage automatically on a regular basis.
This feature is exclusively for use by PlayStation®Plus members.

Other new or revised features in version 3.70:

Photo
MPO (Multi-Picture format) files for 3D photos and multi-angle photos can now be displayed under (Photo) and in (Photo Gallery).

PlayStation®Network
A feature has been added for sharing information about products in PlayStation®Store with your Friends. Select [Recommend] on the product page to send a message introducing the item to your Friends.

Video
  • 3D playback* of Blu-ray Java™ ("BD-J") content is now supported. You can now enjoy BD-J content recorded on Blu-ray 3D™ discs.
  • DTS-HD audio output is now supported while playing Blu-ray 3D™ content*.

* A 3D compatible television that complies with the 3D standard and a high-speed HDMI cable are required to watch 3D content. Some content might not play in 3D or might not play at all.
"Blu-ray 3D" is a trademark of the Blu-ray Disc Association.

Settings
Trophy information can now be synchronized with the server automatically on a regular basis.
This feature is exclusively for use by PlayStation®Plus members.

If anyone has updated and lost their TV icon and cannot find the new renamed one (meaning you don't have the ABC iView icon), don't worry:
  • The icon should come back naturally over time, once your PS3 realises you are in Australia again it should pop back up.
  • Apparently if you update PSHome or make a purchase from the store this will shortcut the realising and will bring the option back.

The PSHome option worked for me so I dont know if the store one works :)

Mine came back over time coz I walked away to find out on the net where the iView icon went and got the heads up that way. By the time I got back to the PS3, it came back!

I'm still waiting for native mkv file support. PS2 backwards compatibility would also be a nice bonus.

After this update, everything XMB is a shit-ton faster. Less lag/loading/blank screen from what I can tell.

Nice to see some improvements

That's good news! I haven't been using the PS3 all too much so I haven't noticed this. Looking forward to the next time I fire up the PS3.

Updates, such as the auto online saves, didn't mean much to me as I don't use PS+. I still hope Sony introduce a 'save all' function for save games. All I just want to do is to put in a USB stick, click save all and for all my saves to be put onto the memory stick, even if it means overwriting. I want the most current stuff anyways and I can use multiple memory sticks if I want to keep saves from a certain point in time.

Few days old this thread but, I am starting to have issues with this update, I cannot Quit games, the Ps3 locks up at the Please Wait screen, after a while it it 'beeps' and the screen goes black.

The problems started about 3 days ago while playing Saints Row 2, yeah decided to go back and play this to finish it, but locked up when saving and corrupted the save so had to delete and start all over again. Pressed the PS button and Quit Game but that locked up too, had to turn it off at the power switch.

After 3 days of watching DVDs with no games I decided to give SR2 another try, got to the character creation and lost all in-game sound, went to Quit Game and the problem resurfaced. The Ps3 would not read game disks, did soft reset and it now reads them, noticed the game save for SR2 was corrupted again too, deleted it.

Something in this update went wrong, I have original 60GB Ps3.

Well, for what it is worth, I have an old phat 40G PS3 and I have not had any issues after the update. Mind you, the only thing I play is rock band 3.

Yeah my 2 brothers slims are working fine without any issues, only my phat Ps3 is, I tried again with inFamous, game ran fine and saved fine, but would not Quit, locked up again at the Please Wait screen.

Strange, might give the HDD a reformat and clean, then reinstall everything, I do have some corrupted data, maybe that's it, no idea.

No issues on my 40Gb Phat with 320Gb in it... mind you, I haven't been gaming on it and have only been using my PS3 as a media station of late.

Its dead..

On the phone to Sony Tech for about 30 minutes, he got me to do a full system restore, after that reinstalled SR2, tried to play but the issue was still there, lost in-game sound, mostly the voices, when I quit it sat at a blank screen for about 5 minutes before it restarted itself. Now it will not read any disks at all, even after soft reset and after a full system restore, Sony said to repair, about $250 for my model, because out of warranty, no use of that.

Took advantage of EB, $298 for 160GB model, replace with my 500GB HDD will do nicely.. :)

Was going to say "for the love of god turn it off" but seems I was late. Mine did the exact same thing before the blu-ray reader broke.

Thanks for the heads up on the current repair cost. Yeah, the $298 160Gb PS3s will make it less painful to get a new one.

Sorry to hear about the dead PS3 though.

On Monday my mate got the JB deal for $278... Mind you that's when Sony screwed up their pricing on their site, they seem to have fixed it now.
