Having trouble connecting my PS3

Unread postby *BudgeAmon* » 5 Dec 10, 5:46 pm

Hi,
I got my new ps3, when i connected to to my modem and started it up i couldn't update, it kept saying error and some numbers, i googled it and some forums were saying you had to disable media streaming/media servers, which i did and nothing. It also said about opening ports on routers. I have no idea how to do that, besides i have my PS3 directly into the modem which is a Telstra bigpond one. I ended up putting in GT5 and it updated off that. Sweet i thought. Now i went to make a account and the connection times out, so i made on via my pc and tried to login with that account and same timing out thing. Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

Errr... Pretty sure you would need a network cross-over cable to do that. Does the modem have a network link light? did that light up when you plugged in the ps3?

umm i just plugged a Ethernet cable straight from the PS3 to the modem, it has 4 sockets on it at the back, the little light at the back of the modem lights up when i connect the cable if that's what you mean?

I presume you've already followed the steps in >>> THIS GUIDE <<< to set up internet on your PS3?

I'm pretty sure mudslid3 meant what brand/model is your modem. Bigpond/Telstra is your ISP and, while they provided you with a modem, they didn't manufacture it (unless Telstra has diversified it's business in the past month).

You should be able to have your PC and PS3 hooked up at the same time if it's a modem/router that can support multiple devices connected at the same time. I've had 2x PCs, a printer, 2x PS3s, 1x laptop and 2x netbooks connected up to my router all at the same time without a hitch.

Yep, its a Thompson, it has 4 Ethernet ports on the back, i'm getting info about them both being the same ip address, i tried to do it manually and change the last number on the ip address by one, i also had to put the dns number in before i could save or move on, i put the 10.0.0.138 number in there, it didn't work lol, should i put that modified ip address in there too? I was happy to just get moving once i pulled the PC out and it started working so i didn't try any further, was getting quite frustrated with it lol

Get the DNS and default gateway IP addresses from your PC and use those, just bump the actual IP address for the PS3 itself.
