What Do You Think of the New PS3?

The price will be €229.99 for the 12GB model and €299.99 for the 500GB bundled with FIFA 13; there is no mention of how much it will be to buy from stores over here or whether the 500GB will be available sans FIFA.

One thing I am very interested to find out is how many USB slots and what wireless it has.

What do you think…

$298 and $398 respectively

If I didn't have a ps3 I'd be keen for the 500GB one, but as I have an old 40GB Fat that still works fine, It doesn't directly interest me.

I too, wonder how many USB ports it has. Not that I'll be getting one on account of having a PS3 slim already.

Looks good. My big fat one is collecting dust these days as I have bought a big shiny new pc 12 months ago. Still, it's a damn good blu-ray player XD

I like this design more than the previous slim model... though, my 40Gb phat model is still running fine (knock on wood).

I'm hoping the firmware will be updated so it reads SRT subtitle files as well as MKV files natively.

Looks great! :)

If my fat console kicks the bucket I'll be on the lookout for one of these at a reasonable price. Hopefully JBHIFI/BigW have them for $200 :)

It kinda looks like a car amp to me.

I would highly recommend purchasing a subscription to PlayStation Plus. That way, you pay $60 and get free games every month.

Seriously worth it…

Yeah, that would be nice, if I had a decent amount of internet. I only have 60GB, and we use like 70GB per month. :|

If you can get ADSL2+ where you live, no it isn't, it's really cheap, but we can not get that here. We're lucky we even get internet, and it's an absolute pathetic heap of ****, due to our phone line being absolutely useless and it sounding like the person you're talking to is eating pop rocks, but as soon as a phone call is made to Telstra the line fixes itself for the duration of the call so they see nothing wrong. -__-

There's a few reasons why I haven't resorted to PMS much over the years. I'm not a fan of having to devote my PC's resources to streaming to the PS3 when someone else is watching the TV and I'm on the PC, esp when I'm installing programs that needs me to restart the PC. ;)

My room mate uses wifi for her laptop (all Ethernet ports on the router are used up/she moves around with the laptop too much/etc) and streaming 720p over wireless is somewhat ****. I'm currently bypassing the need for mkv by viewing avi only and sometimes re-encoding but would prefer to be saved the hassle.

Also, my PC is in my room and there are times, particularly during summer, when I want it off so my room doesn't feel like a blast furnace (windows aren't always open as cigarette smoke from the neighbours gets in).

Simply put, I'd go buy a $50 media player which will do SRT subs and play MKV if I needed to but don't see why I'd have to if Sony added support on the PS3. Not essential... but would make life for me simpler if it did. Thus why I'm hoping they'll add in this support.

Whilst I agree with that in general, there's other factors: if PirateEggs is the one dictating which plan the household uses, if they're on a contract, availability of internet infrastructure that the better value plans are provided through, if there's other things PirateEggs wants/needs to put money towards and the 60Gb plan offers the best bang within the monetary constraint, if PirateEggs simply wants to stick to a more reputable ISP, etc.

EDIT: OK, this point has been answered. I should never hit submit without reading the new posts first.

It is almost worth buying one of the Raspberry Pi analogues (since you could not buy a Raspberry Pi if your life depended on it)…

i like it in a way, but the top loading disc part puts me off a lil for the looks and depending on your entertainment unit might be a **** to get the disc in the console...

of course i'ld buy one if i do want another ps3 but ive got enough tbh..

BRING ON PS4!!
