Darksiders getting good reviews...

Unread postby Mugsy » 4 Jan 10, 8:28 pm

Metacritic has an 87% average and no score is below 80% thus far:

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platfor ... wrathofwar

They haven't accounted for Ausgamer's review of 94%

I'd say this is the first major game release for 2010 and it looks like a good start to the year!

any idea if Darksiders will show up for the JB Hi-Fi Trade 3 deal? also wondering the same thing for Army of Two 40th Day.

New JB catalogue coming out on the 11th or 12th I believe.

My guess is that both those games will be part of the new 3 for 1 deals. I've got 3 games ready for Ao2:40thD! If there is no deal, I've got credit at GAME as a back up but I'd prefer to use that credit for Blur and another game (I'm hoping Sega Ultimate Collection will be down to $30 by then... $108 will just cover both).

ah ok cool, hope your right. going to try trade in 3 UK games again at JB, the guy that blew me off last time i think he works night shift so ill go in the morning to avoid him  but if theres no JB trade deal, guess i'll have to trade them in at EB with an edge card, they took my UK games last time when JB said no.

I remember that. Good luck this time around.

Yeah, EB doesn't seem to care. I saw a couple of those red packaged US 'platinum' games in their sales bin the other day. Would probably have DLC issues which is why I'd only get overseas games from the UK.

This game is an endless stream of "guess what they ripped off" moments.

Isn't it just, shockingly so. :)

I spend most of the first 15 minutes double checking that I hadn't put the God of War disk in... then for a few moments as I slid down a wall, I thought I was playing Prince of Persia. Could have sworn Devil May Cry paid a visit too. It's a party and everyone's invited! :P

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game and is a rather cool setting for it, bur when it comes to gameplay... it's a blatant rip-off (for more so than any other title I have ever played). I think the reviews have been overstating it a fair bit, it's not *that* good, but I'm still enjoying it.

Oh it doesn't just stop at those games. There's quite a few things in it that seem almost directly lifted from other titles.

I don't know if you're at the tower yet, but damn, they weren't exactly subtle with that one. If you are there, then you'll know what I'm talking about.

What about Legend of Zelda? I heard the devs make comparisons to it, and as far as I'm concerned there's not enough 3D Zelda ripoffs available.

Likewise here. I'm still going through inFamous, Wolverine and Red Faction: Guerrilla... though I'd wonder if that statement was true because I haven't played some of those games for about a month now. Bloody Borderlands has been hogging the PS3 for a while and Army of Two 2 is about to come out.

yeah massive zelda reference with like this golem and stuff, i swear its the exact same cinematic sequence as like ocarina of time or which ever. and he has a boomerang type weapon thats also used in many puzzles heh, but it looks more like the glaive from DarkSector so its wicked.

anyway point of all the ripoff stuff is that the game is mad paced having evolving modes of gameplay. I just don't get bored!
the combat is as easy to control as GoW, the boss battles are as good and as epic as DMC and the puzzles are as varied and creative as Zelda. It gives a tip of the hat to so many games, where it lacks in originality it makes up in style, pace and presentation - you know sorta like the same thing people said about this gears of war ripoff called Uncharted 2.
