Internode needs better server settings

Unread postby TOGmadweasel » 22 Feb 11, 9:07 pm

Honestly people, if your aim over the last few years has been to gather the most baddest, horrid, clueless players to ever buy this game, cram them into a single server, and consequently turn every experienced player away from node, well done, goal achieved.

Not only does this turn the older players off playing in node, new people who buy the game stop playing pretty quickly because of the horrid bottle necking skill levels your servers are attracting. Fact.

Last few times I have bothered to look into node as a pub option there have been 30 players made up of 10 mgs, 12 assaults, 6 people proning spawn even when their team mates are pushing to cap the last flag, and a handful of people who can play.

People **** in the server all the time about the amount of mgers, which makes a bunch of people turn to sniper to kill the mgs, which turns into the opposition using sniper to counter the other scopes. The server just turns into a bunch of people camping with mgs and snipers vs another bunch of people camping with mgs and snipers. Ruins decent maps like argentan.

The clan pub servers are turning the tides because the class limits allow better gaming quality. They also offer other maps. Kalt, Colmar, Avalanche are getting tired and old. Same stuff every single time on those maps.

Time to limit the classes, even if mg and sniper and assault are limited to a ridiculously high 4 each side, its still so much better.

Meh. dont know why I bothered. The people who run the server obviously enjoy the **** quality of dods internode brings. They probably fit in just fine with the other idiots

So whats your opinion?

Is it considered good game play to sit with an mg on the concrete staircase on axis side of kalt and just spam bullets through the wheelhouse wall getting kills?

What about on avalanche... Axis mg on the overpass to church, mg in sniper crack, mg in the 2 small windows, 2 mgs on the platform above axis second flag, and another who feels its good game play to shoot the piano to block allies from getting though the building to axis second...

All **** like that does is fail the server and make the game boring. In my brief encounters with better players, the general consensus is that internode servers are a bit of a laughing stock.

This is also not just my opinion, many many people complain in pub about this kind of ****. By the looks of it im not the only one to put a post on the forums about it either.

As far as I know, there are several node servers and rarely is more than 1 used at any one time. Why not create limits on classes in 1 of the servers?

Or is internode dods admins made up of these same people who think assault is "accurate", mging is skillful, anyone with a 2-1kdr is cheating?

As I haven't played the game in a loooooooooooong time, my opinion is most likely irrelevant, but since you asked for it, here is the explanation of it all.

What I can tell you as an Ex Admin for GON, is when they did have class limits ALL of the servers were empty and remained empty.

When someone suggested that we remove the class limits and a whole bunch of players agreed we decided to trial it. The player base returned almost immediately and that showed us that is what the players wanted.

I agree that class limits are most likely needed in the game to avoid camp fests, however it is not what the player base want that use the server. Hence that is why there is no class limits.

Surely that is not an issue for you as the way you speak it sounds like there are many clan servers out there with class limits that fit to your style of gaming.

You keep putting it on the Admins, yet the reason it is there is purely because it is what the players wanted. Sounds like you are more upset purely because all of the MG's ruin your precious KDR ;)

Meh couldnt care less about my KDR in pub games. What I do care about is that pub is for fun, and internodes server set up prevents fun.

For many. As you may notice the players who mainly frequent node are reasonably new to the game. Not many players who have been around for years play in node because of its horribleness.

Im not fussed anymore, was just looking for an improvement. I will do as many others have, and start playing in other servers.

Unless you are going to set up a massive marketing campaign to bring the 'old boys' that have left back to node, I don't think it's worthwhile to exclude new players from the game.

Remember, new people have to play somewhere too. Last time I played DoD:S on node I saw a few people still there from years ago so they can't have all left.
