Reporting Troublemakers: A Guide
A question we get all the time is how players can grab the attention of admins in game, to report troublemakers. Whether you need to contact us to report a suspected use of hacks or cheats, exploits, or anything else that breaches the rules, there are a number of ways to get in touch with us.
In Game
The easiest (and quickest) of these is to simply type the following in the in-game chat:
!admin <name of DoDS Server>, <Name of offender>, <Offence> (without the brackets).
In IRC
You are also able to join our IRC channel here (which is #GamesOnNet on the Gamesurge IRC network) Upon joining IRC, you'll need to report the offender in the same way you would in game.
!admin <name of DoDS Server>, <Name of offender>, <Offence> (without the brackets).
Recording A Demo
If you wish to submit a trouble maker report, you will need to record a demo of the payer in question. To record a demo, follow the procedure below.
- Pull down the console by hitting the (tilde "~") or (grave accent "`") key on your keyboard.
- Type in the console "record playername1" This will begin the demo.
- Immediately type "status" in the console.
- If submitting someone you suspect of using a wallhack or using an aimbot, you must be spectating them in First Person view.
In the case of a suspected aimbot or wallhack, where possible, please include a few instances of the player dying in order to help us in verifying their identity.
For other offences, such as team killing or use of an exploit, any view in which the offence and players name can be clearly seen is acceptable. - Once you think the demo has gathered sufficient evidence, type "stop" in the console.
Submitting a Demo
Demos can be found in your Steam directory; in the case of DoD:S this is
- Code: Select all
\Steam\steamapps\username\day of defeat source\dod
Submit demos using this link: http://games.on.net/pages.php?page=tmr
All submissions must be in a RAR or ZIP format.
If you don't have an application capable of doing this, you can download an evaluation version of WinRAR or WinZip. (Links included for those too lazy to google)
Notes on Demoing
- A longer demo will provide us with more evidence, and give a greater chance of the offender being banned.
- You must type "status" in the console when recording the demo, as we require a players Steam ID in order to have them banned.
- Sometimes, the Source Engine will "lag out" when trying to demo. This will occur when the client loses sync with the server, resulting in the appearance of the game being frozen. In order to prevent this from happening - (or if it does happen), you can bring down the console and type "retry", or rejoin the game without leaving the server.
