From beneath a pile of games, I have briefly emerged to write this week’s column. Let’s just accept the fact that the video game industry is never going to learn how to manage a release schedule. It’s getting silly now – most of the big titles are hitting on the same day! The season has just started, and I’m already overwhelmed, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Enjoy it while it lasts, because it looks like there will be a drought between the end of November and March.
This week, The Warp Pipe travels into the trivia vault again for another round of random video game facts.

One title which has me drooling currently is the information-sparse Bayonetta from Sega. With only a couple of images coming out of the E3 Media & Business Summit, (thus far!), it has prompted me to do some research into this title.
As a result - we've uncovered a trailer from eariler this year, and some promises on what we can expect from Bayonetta, which is directed by Hideki Kamiya of Resident Evil and Devil May Cry fame.
While any actual information about any gameplay, setting or the like is incredibly sparse - the teaser trailer is enough to make me want this game. And not just want it 'sometime', I want it Now.

More than a year ago, a little game called Okami was released to the world. A delicate, fragile creature, this was a game that truly blurs the line between video game and art, boasting Japanese-inspired designs and breathtaking imagery.
Of course, as all good games seem to be, the PS2 title was largely ignored by the mainstream gaming public and the media, and it didn't sell well. Hopefully, the new port of the title, which has taken the original and shifted it over to the Wii, will do a little better, with some innovative motion-sensitive capabilities and a more intuitive interface. Matt K got out his celestial brush and has painted a review for us, and if you're looking for something a bit different, it's well worth a read - even if just to see how it compares to the PS2 preview from Rulke last year.

It seems like every day that a game gets a new website, or a mini-site, or a community site... but it's much more rare for a website to be dedicated just to a game's artwork - which is just what's happened with Okami.
Take a look at www.okamiart.com and explore more than 300 original Okami illustrations, download wallpapers, or even send in your own drawings for a chance to be featured in a later update.

Usually for The Warp Pipe, March requires a certain writer's wallet to be sealed within a heavily secured vault to prevent him from spending too much money on games he'll leave sitting on shelf. Fortunately this year, a combination of lower income and a distinct lack of anything interesting being released, my wallet shall remain firmly pressed against my buttocks (with the exception of my import copies of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Okami: Wii Edition). I'm really surprised as March used to represent a dumping ground for PAL publishers for all of those titles that hit North American at Christmas time. Ignoring Nintendo, does that imply that the situation is getting better? The games that were delayed seem to be mostly niche titles – Beautiful Katamari, Persona 3, Odin Sphere. We should really be thankful that they're getting released here at all.
This week, we'll weigh in on the recent movements in the corporate world, take a look at Activision's bizarre (and rather offensive) way of trying to teach Spanish on the DS, and revisit the hackneyed Wing Commander movie.

Ever since creative, Asian-inspired action/adventure game Okami was released, gamers have wondered how the game's paintbrush style of interaction would translate onto the Wii. There was a collective smile around the world when it was announced that the formerly PS2-only title would in fact be arriving on the motion-sensitive console - but not much had been heard about the project since.
However, it all changes today with Capcom coming to our rescue. They've given us not one, but two Wii gameplay videos, as well as a whole pile of brand new screenshots from the platform. This should be more than enough to give you a good idea of how it'll all pan out!

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts have announced the 2007 winners of their annual Video Games Awards at a ceremony in London overnight.
All games released in the UK between October 6th 2007 and December 31st 2007 were eligible for nomination (so there are some on the list that aren't out yet), but in order to be judged, the jury had to actually be able to play the game by September 6.
Underwater genetically-modified shooterBioshock took out Best Game, but the night truly belonged to Nintendo's mini-game bundle, Wii Sports, which picked up six awards on the night.

If you - like me - wanted to try out the award-winning Okami, but didn't have a PS2 handy, you have a reason to smile today. It's just been announced that Amaterasu, the sun god with the body of a wolf, is making a glorious encore - where else, but on the Wii!
The control scheme for the game has been re-imagined, and re-built around the Wiimote, offering players an unparalleled level of control as they explore the beautifully crafted adventure.
The destructive tyranny of the monster Orochi has made Amaterasu's world dismal and it is up to the sun god to travel through various regions in order to regain Celestial Brush powers that will return colour and life to his home!

Generally speaking, any two games released by a developer will have obvious similarities. Apparently, Clover Studios didn't adhere to that theory, with their two most recent titles, Okami and God Hand being almost polar opposites in terms of gameplay and content.
We've already looked at Okami, this week Rulke steps up to the plate to explore the world of God Hand, and to review his findings. Is being so different to such an innovative title a good thing? Let's see...

It's been a long time coming, Ōkami. One of the final games developed by Japanese Clover Studios (before parent company Capcom shut them down), it's almost viewed more as a work of art than as a video game (check out the screenshots). It's nearly here - so who cares that it was released in Japan nearly a year ago? Who cares that the Americans got their hands on it in September?
...our very own Rulke got invited to a special hands-on preview before the game's Australian release - go see what he thought, and if your tastes are anything like mine, start wondering if food's really necessary, or if you should pick up this game instead.
