Atari yanks NWN modules from BioWare store
You used to be able to buy premium modules (game expansions) for Neverwinter Nights at the BioWare Store. Not anymore -- Atari has forbidden BioWare from doing so, for 'legal reasons.'

Modules already bought from BioWare will still function, but now only Atari has the right to sell them. The problem: Atari isn't bending over backwards to do so...

Dragon Age: Origins to spawn traditional RPG
Dragon Age: Origins has an inarguably excellent RPG pedigree. It comes to us courtesy of BioWare, who are not only responsible for bringing the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons pen-and-paper role playing system to life in the Baldurs Gate series and Neverwinter Nights, but whose own developed role playing systems form the backbone of titles like Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. With that kind of experience behind them, you can be sure that the Dragon Age: Origins mechanics are going to be solid, but in case you were in doubt, confirmation comes today with the announcement of the upcoming publication of a pen-and-paper edition of the game's system.

Dragon Age: Origins in magical new trailer
I'm not a big fan of magic users. I hate fiddling around with complicated spell systems and not being able to tank up in heavy armour. This is because I'm an uncomplicated individual who would rather just smack something until it gives in than have to actually think about what I'm doing. Like all pure barbarian types I am naturally terrified of meeting a high-level mage since I have virtually no defense against the trigger-happy meanies, and this short new trailer for Dragon Age: Origins does nothing to dispel my nervousness, as it shows a handful of mages doing what they do best - blow stuff up.

Bioware talk about Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2, The Old Republic
It has been revealed by Bioware figureheads that Dragon Age: Origins will not contain any multiplayer content. It may not come as a surprise to many, but following the inclusion of multiplayer in both Neverwinter Nights titles, it may strike some as odd.

In a recent interview, Dr. Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk of Bioware answered the question flatly - while also talking up the inclusion of a tool set for the title, which will (at this point) see PC owners able to craft their own epic adventures within the Dragon Age universe.

In addition, more details regarding Mass Effect 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic were revealed.

Cult RPG The Dark Eye coming to PC: First Screens
Last year, I was pleased to hear that The Games Company - otherwise known as TGC - had secured the rights to produce a PC version of the classic pen-and-paper RPG, The Dark Eye, but not too excited, in this era of acquiring squillions of rights and then sitting on them jealously while never producing anything. Luckily, my cynicism has been rewarded with a pleasant surprise, with the first screen shots of The Dark Eye: Demonicon turning up today. Looks like something will eventuate, after all.

Mass Effect PC - Copy protection dramas
In a move that is sure to upset more than a handful of PC gamers, BioWare has come out with the announcement that the PC version of their space RPG Mass Effect will include SecuROM copy-protection technology.

The technology is similar to what was used on Bioshock, and will only allow gamers to install their game three times - which is fair enough, some might say (until you reformat your machine for the fourth time and want to play the game). It then goes one step further, and "phones home" every ten days, re-sending the CD key and a unique machine identifier, to re-authenticate that copy of the game.

...and, according to a company representative, this is the same situation that will be in place for the release of Spore, later this year.

Bioware and LucasArts, sitting in a tree... K.O.T.O.R. number three!
It seems as though Bioware have been awfully busy as of late, with the announcement yesterday of Mass Effect to be released on PC. Barely giving time for gamers to get their heads around that, it seems that a tiny bit of information we had received not too long ago has developed further. This, information; directly relating to activities in a galaxy far, far away has now had some confirmation through an EA Analyst Report, and a list of planned titles.

We previously brought you information on the announcement of an old partnership between Bioware and LucasArts, but a new Knights of the Old Republic game was not officially announced at that time. It appears that something is happening now.

You may have heard the rumours, but it is my duty to inform you that yes - Electronic Arts has acquired VG Holding Corp., who owns both BioWare and Pandemic Studios.

Both of these companies have created some of the best-quality games in the industry (BioWare bringing NeverWinter Nights, Baldur's Gate, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, as well as Pandemic's Destroy All Humans!, Full Spectrum Warrior and Dark Reign 2) which will give EA a much-needed boost in the areas of action, adventure and role-playing games.

Internode's own NWN Drow Wars hits Version 5
Back in the dim dark days of 2002, Bioware released the original Neverwinter Nights game, taking the RPG world by storm. In time, along came two fairly significant expansions that not only provided additional content, but extended the depth of the game by extending the base ruleset itself. But where NWN really shines, is the multiplayer side of the game .. combined with the ability to create entire realms from scratch. One excellent example is Internode's own Drow Wars module, which recently released its fifth major update.

Gamer Is Hailed A Hero In Shooting
Here is a good news story worth talking about. A man in Britain has been hailed as a hero when intervening in a hold up. He was shot in the chest during the robbery. In an interesting twist the youth who was named via the media was identified as a gamer. Adam Mapelson was identified wearing a Pure Pwnage hat. This lead to bloggers and gamers online being able to identify Adam as a Counter-Strike player.

Neverwinter Nights 2 v1.04 Patch Released
Atari have just released a patch for Neverwinter Nights 2, bringing the sequel to the hugely popular Neverwinter Nights up to version 1.04.

The 1.04 patch brings a whole swag of changes and balances to the table as well as some new functions and debugging tools for the NWN 2 modders out there. It also has a nice fix for the previously released v1.04 Beta which caused Windows 2000 machines to crash to desktop when trying to launch.

The patch also fixed the dialogue with Qaggoth in Tavorick's estate looping, fixed it looping, fixed it looping, fixed it looping, fixed it looping... (see what I did there?)
