Guybrush Threepwood and I have history. History of the kind where games are banished to the naughty shelf and baby newsbots sit and the ground and tantrum in frustration, learning valuable life lessons like: don't play point-and-click games, you are bad at them.
Other people apparently had better experiences, and it is to these people - blessed with problem-solving skills, a good sense of humour, and an attention span longer than a gnat's - to whom I address this wonderful news: The second episode of Tales of Monkey Island is due this week.

What have the gaming public been buying this week via digital distribution platform Steam? ... Some strategy, it seems this week, with a bunch of people snapping up Dawn of War II thanks to the game being half price over the weekend. The rest of the world still seems to be jumping up and down in an excited manner about the yet-to-be released Aion - The Tower of Eternity, while the rest of the world seems to be content with buying more and more copies of Left 4 Dead and Counter Strike: Source.
If you want to what else sold the most last week, you'll just have to check out the Steam Top Sellers for the week ending August 2nd!

Each week, we collate the most popular stories that we published over the past seven days, plus a lineup of the most downloaded files added in the same timeframe. That way, in case you missed something, you can catch up in one helpful little spot, every Monday morning.
Who'dathunk, last week, that we'd be celebrating the news that Sam Raimi had been announced as the director of the Warcraft movie? Gamers are all still fascinated by what's been selling (or not) on Steam, and by the 15-minute walkthrough of Mafia 2, narrated by Denby Grace. We also got information that Episodes from Liberty City will be released in October, just after Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.
It was a week packed with more than a few interesting bits and pieces - why not take the time to trip down Memory Lane?

Last week there was a lesson: Don't make threats against your country while playing games, you'll get arrested. The rest of the week was full of night-vision goggles, giant mechs, and a couple of our E3 videos - Borderlands and Aliens vs. Predator.
For the rest, you'll have to check the full list!

Those of you who have missed swashbuckling pirate hero, Guybrush Threepwood will be very happy to know that Telltale Games have released a demo of the first episode of Tales of Monkey Island.
Entitled Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, the demo of the first episode gives players a chance to road-test the game play of Telltale's newest game, giving them the option to choose whether or not they'd like to walk the plank and plunge into the humorous depths of nostalgia, or just continue insisting that "the adventure game is dead".
Whatever your choice may be, the truth of the matter is that Telltale Games are one of the few remaining studios to focus on adventure games, so if you consider yourself a fan - we'd advise you to download the demo.

The mid-year release rush has run its course, so we’re now in for the infamous winter drought (or summer drought for our Northern Hemisphere friends). With the advent of digital download services, winter isn’t quite as cold as it used to be; HD console owners can look forward to the release of Battlefield 1943 tonight, while PC gamers can warm up with the first episode of Tales of Monkey Island, or a few of the LucasArts classics soon to be available through Steam.
Don’t forget to check out the full release schedule for the latest changes and information on upcoming games.

Oh, LucasArts! You do love us! Here we thought maybe you were just toying with our fragile hearts, but no! Not only do you announce a revamp of the original Secret of Monkey Island, and set out to reinvigorate the franchise with Telltale's new episodic series, Tales of Monkey Island, now you go ahead and put the icing on the cake (and the ring on the finger, and consummate the marriage) by partnering with Valve to make a large slice of the classic back catalogue available via Steam!
LucasArts have been teasing their "amazing news" for the last few days, and late Monday confirmed the following titles for release through Steam this week:
