Steam loads up on SOE MMORPGs: EQII, Vanguard, and more
Steam and Sony Online Entertainment... sitting in a tree – first comes downloads, then goes the monies, and there goes your real-life. (Hah, I never finished third grade.) This is a big deal. No, this is huge. No it’s humongous. No, it’s freaking insane! Teaming with Valve Corporation is kind of a big “blow me” to Blizzard Entertainment by SOE. Fine it really isn’t but the drama is fun to think about.

Anyway, SOE has a huge stable of MMOGs. Steam users can find EverQuest, EverQuest II, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes and Pirates of the Burning Sea. It’s a win, win. To mark the occasion each title is being offered at a special price which includes thirty days of free gameplay.

Pirates of the Burning Sea: A Bigpond isn't enough
Australian gamers who enjoy a bit of swashbuckling action with Pirates of the Burning Sea are in for a shakeup, with the developers announcing they will "not be renewing" their partnership with their Australian service provider - meaning that the Invincible server will be turned off at the beginning of January.

Rather than leaving pirates homeless, we can assure you that gamers who lurk on Invincible will be provided with one free transfer, to any server - with most gamers expected to set up shop on the new Defiant location, which will feature port battle times suitable for Aussies.

The Warp Pipe - 29/06/08
This weekend marks the midway point of 2008, a milestone which has either come very slowly or out of nowhere, depending on your perception of time and space. I find myself in the latter group, stuck in a state of mind where it's March or April, largely out of desperation for some warm weather. Most of my recent time has been spent wrestling a Metal Gear Solid 4 review, which you'll see on the site soon, and the new Alone in the Dark game, which has some promising concepts destroyed by wretched controls and a multitude of glitches.

With the midway point reached, I thought I'd take the time this week to look back at the major events and releases of the first six months of the year.
