PC version of Battlefied 1943 delayed until 2010
Those of you who were hoping to get their hands on a PC version of Battlefield 1943 next month will not be too happy with DICE. The company has announced that the PC version of the throwback, arcade styled shooter will not arrive until some point in 2010.

The reasons for this delay are due to the fact that the company have not released a game on the PC which is powered by the Frostbite engine. While the release is anticipated to take place in the first quarter of 2010, the delay will also see the inclusion of new features, that are not present in the console versions of the game.

Battlefield 1943 servers coming Down Under?
Ask and ye shall receive, it seems. Following the slight disaster that was the Battlefield 1943 Xbox 360 launch this week, local gamers were crying out for Australian servers for the game. Not only would it reduce the load on the international boxes, but it'd mean that we'd be able to play the game with decent ping.

Well, according to Gordon Van Dyke from DICE, salvation will arrive "within the next few days", with official word that we'll be getting local servers for the game. Without a trace of hyperbole, Mr. Van Dyke explains that this "should make your experience 1,000,000,000,000 times better!"

Battlefield 1943 a bit worse for wear on Xbox 360
Further to EA's woes today is the news that the Battlefield 1943 launch didn't go quite as smoothly as they may have hoped.

The eagerly-anticipated title was released last night, Australian time, and it seems fans were a little too eager in their anticipation, with EA and developers DICE struggling to keep up with demand, and many gamers simply unable to play.

(Not sure what all the fuss is about? Check out the shiny new launch trailer to catch up!)

[E3 2009] Battlefield 1943 heads to the Coral Sea with your help
Everybody, gather 'round. DICE wants you to take part in a massive community event for Battlefield 1943 when it launches this winter. They've just announced a fourth map for the game, Coral Sea, but when you buy the game, it will be locked away where you can't get to it.

If you want a chance to play this new WWII map, then you'd better have your trigger finger ready - it'll only unlock when the multiplayer community has achieved 43M kills on PlayStation Network, and the same number on Xbox Live ...until that happens, you'll only have three maps to play on: Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal and Wake Island. Take a look at what you're missing out on, with this new Coral Sea trailer!

Battlefield 1943 - Iwo Jima map revealed in new trailer
Those looking forward to more World War II combat will be happy to see that a new trailer has been released for Battlefield 1943, which is due to launch on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the PlayStation Network in June this year.

The new trailer shows off the 'Iwo Jima' map, features lots of explosions, gun fire and a rather large number of exploding, collapsing trees, which shows off the fact that the new, updated engine will feature destructible cover more prominently than the Frostbite engine's first outing, Battlefield: Bad Company.

Battlefield: 1943 announced (yes, you read that right)
While other franchises are running away from World War II scenarios, there is one title who knows which side their bread is buttered. They've dabbled in other conflicts, but it seems they've come back to what is familiar and comfortable - and I'd like to introduce Battlefield: 1943, from DICE and Electronic Arts.

Due out by the end of the year through the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and a downloadable PC version, you can take to the Pacific theatre of war either as the US Marines or the Imperial Japanese Navy as you battle through maps set in Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal and the classic Wake Island. We have the very first trailer for the game, which should give you an idea of what's in store.
