Those of you who enjoy driving cars along at rather high speeds, but don't own a console, haven't been all that well looked after recently. Enter Codemasters, who, as we all know, plan to release DiRT 2 on the PC in about a fortnight. To get people excited about the game, they have announced that DiRT 2 is now available for pre-purchase through Steam.
If the lure DirectX 11 isn't enough for you, Codemasters are trying to tempt users into buying DiRT 2 through Steam by offering the original DiRT at a heavily discounted rate once you've purchased DiRT 2.

A post at the official Codemasters forums has revealed the minimum and recommended system specs for Colin McRae: DiRT 2. While the upcoming PC version of the populist racing title will fully support the advanced graphics of DirectX 11, the proprietary EGO Engine will still effectively scale down to the de facto standard of DirectX 9...

While racing fans can already enjoy Colin McRae DiRT 2 on 360, PS3, Wii, DS, and even PSP, PC gamers will have to wait until December for the privilege. The reason: the 'Games for Windows Live' version will be one of the first games to make full use of Microsoft's experimental new operating system 'Windows 7.'

Call me a suspicious individual if you like, but I'm harbouring serious concerns about venerable British developers Codemasters. Over the last few days the respected independent company have announced two surprise resignations from fairly big names, as Gavin Raeburn and Trevor Williams each apparently cut and run.

With the weekend fast approaching, it’s time for the games.on.net crew to put down the review gamepad and pick up the personal gamepad. They’re really quite different you know.
Read more to see what we choose to play, rather than get paid to play. We also want to know what's spinning in your drives this weekend.

This week’s Coming Attractions is brought to you by broken street dates and clearance sales. Many of the games marked for release tomorrow, like Colin McCrae DiRT 2, Need for Speed SHIFT and NHL 10 should already be available in stores now, unless your local game shill is one of those ones that plays by the book. There is also a few neat console ports hitting the PC this week, namely destructor-sim Red Faction Guerilla and Resident Evil 5.
From next week on, we’ll be bringing Coming Attractions to you on Mondays, mostly in an effort to avoid street date breaches messing up our hard work. Don’t forget that you can check out our full release schedule for any updates and changes.

All fancy calendar tricks aside, 09/09/09 is significant for a number of reasons, two of which we’ll mention here. First off, it’s the Dreamcast’s 10th anniversary in the United States, and secondly, it’s launch day for The Beatles: Rock Band, the most heavily hyped music game release to date. Non-Beatles fans don’t have too much to look forward to this week – Champions Online will be available in local retailers at last, and AFL and Rugby League Challenge will be tearing it up on the PSP.
Don’t forget to check out the full release schedule for the latest changes and information on upcoming games.

While it is probably still too early for loud music, this new trailer for DiRT 2 seems to disagree. While I personally turned my speakers off after the first few moments of audio barrage (it really is too early) - the trailer is still soothing for many reasons.
Firstly, there's the splendid graphics. Secondly, there are many cars depicted crashing or having difficulty navigating the dirt roads, something that is always amusing, and something that will be, of course, resolved once the game is thrown out to the masses on the 19th of September.

In case you needed a reminder, today is Tuesday. That means that it is time for another instalment of Now Playing. This week, we look at a bunch of trailers, hoping that they will be, at the very least, interesting and entertaining.
This week, we get the ball rolling with Brutal Legend, before we actually flip, and crash, possibly in a burning fireball, thanks to DiRT 2. After that, we take a quick look at a Singularity before the heavens open and some Heavy Rain begins to fall. Finally, after some persuasion (not the good kind) we get not so friendly with the mob.

Codemasters have released a multi player demo of their anticipated racing game, Colin McRae DiRT 2. The demo is currently only available to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners. It is currently unclear as to when a PC demo of the game will be released, due to the fact that the PC version of the game is currently undergoing more development, in order to provide support for DirectX 11.
In any case, those who want to give the game a test drive on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are now able to do so, with the demo containing two events. The first of these is a "trailblazer" event, in which players drive a Mitsubishi Eclipse GT through a Moroccan point-to-point racing track.

Welcome to this week's instalment of Now Playing, where each week we strive to bring you a collection of interesting, sometimes wonderful, sometimes woeful trailers.
This week sees a diverse bunch of trailers, with some new single player content from Starcraft II leading the charge. After we're done fighting the zerg, we go to fight a different kind of foe after travelling through the Stargate. Once we get back to Earth, we spend some time in race cars making some things pretty DiRTY.
Once the cars make us angry, we'll start destroying them, as if we are a Dragon Rising. Finally, we take some time to meet Wynne, who is a character that will feature in an upcoming game from Bioware.

Other news that was popular included an explanation about EVE Online from the developers, what was to be contained within the Assassin's Creed II collector's edition.
Finally, lots of people wanted to hear all about the fact that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed would be making its way to both the PC and Mac.

Those of you who have been following the development of DiRT 2 will be aware of the fact that world-famous driver, Ken Block, acted as a consultant on the game, providing feedback on the handling of vehicles, and all those other fun things that professional consults tend to do.
In order for players to understand exactly what it is that Mr. Block contributed to the development of the game, Codemasters have thoughtfully provided us with a shiny new trailer in which Mr. Block speaks of his experiences within the game and within real-life, discussing traction, braking, and important driving actions.

Those of you who would like to think of Colin McRae: DiRT 2 as a rally-car racer only will need to remember (when you pick up the game) that a bunch of new content for the game has been announced, focusing on the X Games events held in America, Europe, and Asia.
This means that the game will feature not only traditional off-road and rally racing, but a number of spectacular, arena based events, with the X Games events to feature in Colin McRae: DiRT 2 as the "landmark achievements" in the game's World Tour mode.

Well now, I have some good news and some bad news for you.
Good news first! Codemasters have confirmed that the PC version of their upcoming off-road racer Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will indeed support DirectX 11, and all the bells and whistles that come along with it.
The bad news? They're pretty time consuming bells and whistles - and DirectX 11 isn't coming out until Windows 7 in October, so you'll have to wait an extra couple of months for the game. While the console will be tearin' up the track from September onward, PC gamers will now twiddle their thumbs until the revised release date of December 2009.

Those of you who've been wanting to race rally cars on your Wii and are just not happy with what is currently available will be happy to know that one of the more anticipated racing games due to be released this year, Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will be making its way onto the Nintendo platform, with most of the same features that will be seen on the PC, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 versions of the game.
To demonstrate some of the content to be seen on the Wii, Codemasters have released a dirty new trailer that shows off the game in action on a Wii console, thankfully void of stylus swinging and grinning individuals.

At a recent demonstration for Colin McRae: DiRT 2, developer Codemasters made a heart-warming announcement. As you progress through the upcoming racer, you'll get a bit closer to qualifying for a special in-game rally race: the Colin McRae Memorial Cup.
Colin McRae was the main spokesman for Codemasters' racing franchise for years, through the releases of Colin McRae Rally and Colin McRae: DiRT, until the time of his sudden death in September 2007. At that time, the original DiRT was too close to release for the developers to implement any major changes, so it's great to see them taking the time to respect his memory in the sequel.

Working as a technical consultant for Colin McRae: DiRT 2, Block speaks of his impressions regarding the title in this new trailer.
