A post at the official forums of Star Wars: The Old Republic has unveiled a new character class that will be playable in the hotly-anticipated MMO.
"The Imperial Agent is heavily inspired by several classic Star Wars characters such as Zam Wessel and Grand Moff Tarkin. Imperial Agents work behind the scenes to get the work of the Empire done. Specializing in high-tech gear, the Imperial Agent always has the right tools at the right time..."

I know, right? Who could ever have predicted Jedi Knights in a Star Wars game?
Actually, I did, because I've got more midichlorians than you. Anyway, the Star Wars: The Old Republic site has a little more information on these "Defenders of the Republic."
You can even access the holonet and look at futuristic images from a long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away).

BioWare has released the fourth in its series of Developer Dispatch videos, revealing more behind-the-scenes info on the upcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic.
In this in-depth video, the senior designers and artists on the project discuss the unique creative challenges involved in simulating a city that stretches across the surface of an entire planet. We learn of the factions on Coruscant that players will be able to interact with, how the game fits into the broader Star Wars continuity, and what never-before-seen areas of the Galaxy's capital planet will be depicted.

Each week, we collate the most popular stories that we published over the past seven days, plus a lineup of the most downloaded files added in the same timeframe. That way, in case you missed something, you can catch up in one helpful little spot, every Monday morning.
Last week, our first ever web comic proved to be popular, as did a more in depth look at the reasons behind why Left 4 Dead 2 was refused classification. A retrospective look at Planescape: Torment was also widely read, and some leaked footage of the upcoming Aliens vs. Predator made many people drool. People were also interested in Korsakovia, a Half-Life 2 mod.

Registration for the beta test of The Old Republic will be starting shortly – just as soon as LucasArts can make the official site withstand the swamping interest of fans from around the world. As of this writing, the registration page has nothing but a place-holder message:
"Please be patient and check back later. We estimate that the site will be back up in the next few hours."

Welcome to this week's edition of Now Playing, where each and every Tuesday, we attempt to bring to your attention what we think are the best and worst trailers have been released in the past week.
Today, we take a look at a number of games, where we actually try to have a consistent theme throughout now playing. This week we will have an RPG theme, three games featured start with a D (try and guess them all!), and through some random twist of fate, two of them are developed by the Gods over at Bioware. The last is one that has made headlines before, and will probably make headlines again.
Starved for some RPG trailers? Watch Now Playing!

Bioware have revealed another playable class for Star Wars: The Old Republic, the Smuggler. Slick, sneaky and street smart, the Smuggler does as his name suggests - haul cargo from one place to the next, even where a star system is "on the verge of collapse". Even with numerous enemies Smugglers must rely on their charm to get themselves out of sticky situations.
If that doesn't work, there is always escape, with Smugglers experienced in evading those would prefer to see them dead. In a pinch however, Smugglers prove to be deadly in combat.

E3 is well and truly over now - while there will still be the odd piece of news popping up here and there from the event for a little bit longer, the big announcements have come and gone.
To celebrate, we're bringing you our final, special edition of Now Playing for E3 this year, which features some of the most popular (and brilliant!) trailers that we've added in the past hectic week.
First up, there is Assassin's Creed 2, which was closely followed by Left 4 Dead 2. Next on the list is Star Wars: The Old Republic, which edged out Project Natal from Microsoft and Peter Molyneux. Finally, just managing to squeeze into the list of most popular trailers for the week is Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.
Enjoy!

Here we are, in another week of May. Swine flu has attempted to ravage the world, the Australian federal budget is due to unfurl its claws from within Parliament House, and video game developers have continued releasing countless trailers for games. Instead of sifting through the great oceans of video yourself, the fine folk here at Games On Net, sift through them for you, bringing you the files, along with the banter of one embittered newsbot, each and every Tuesday.
This week, we first journey to blooded, violent lands of the past filled with happy Dragons, before plummeting towards a Fallen Earth where we attempt to speed towards our next racing fix. We then journey to a galaxy far, far away to learn about some diverse worlds. Finally, take a few moments to defend our dungeon from pesky heroes.

Bioware have unveiled the second playable class for the upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, which is set in a galaxy, far far away, as the cinema reel continually reminds us. The class is one for the warrior types, and is aptly named The Trooper.
The Trooper fights not with Lightsabers, but instead uses his "will to fight". As members of the Republic military, the men and women who serve have faced many set backs from the Sith Empire. They haven't given up, and come the launch of The Old Republic fresh recruits are needed to join the elite Trooper Ranks.

It has been revealed by Bioware figureheads that Dragon Age: Origins will not contain any multiplayer content. It may not come as a surprise to many, but following the inclusion of multiplayer in both Neverwinter Nights titles, it may strike some as odd.
In a recent interview, Dr. Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk of Bioware answered the question flatly - while also talking up the inclusion of a tool set for the title, which will (at this point) see PC owners able to craft their own epic adventures within the Dragon Age universe.
In addition, more details regarding Mass Effect 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic were revealed.

BioWare have released some new information regarding Star Wars: The Old Republic - their upcoming PC-based MMO set in the Star Wars universe. In this new trailer, narrated by Lance Henriksen, a brief timeline regarding The Treaty of Coruscant is recounted, which helps to establish the "unique time period" in which Star Wars: The Old Republic is set.
As a turning point in the "recent history" of the Republic, the time period which is discussed in the trailer is in close proximity to the events of the game.

Bioware have revealed that the Bounty Hunter will be the first playable class from their upcoming MMO - Star Wars: The Old Republic. As infamous and anonymous figures, Bounty Hunters align themselves with whoever offers the most lucrative contract.
Using flame-throwers and missile launchers, Bounty Hunters spend their days scouring the galaxy for their targets, which are often prominent and powerful people who are prepared for a fight. As such, the life of a Bounty Hunter within The Old Republic is one which is highly dangerous, competitive, and deadly.

Welcome this week's instalment of Now Playing, where we take your hand and lead you into a darkened theatre, one filled with dust, cobwebs and the addled rants of a veteran gamer. Inside this magical theatre, you'll see the most irresistibly interesting, marvellously magnificent, or downright dire trailers from recently released or upcoming games.
This week, we shall fight with repetition, before falling into a radioactive pitt. Then we go to a galaxy, far far away, then we return to a war-torn Earth, to engage in a bit of sizzling boxing.

There’s a disturbance in the force as two news items have come to light. First is the engine that is building Star Wars: The Old Republic. You should know what a game engine is by now, if you don't - it's the system software that gives developers the tools to create the games we love to play. Licensing an already developed game engine saves a lot of time, money, and tears. And BioWare has picked the HeroEngine!
The main disturbance deals with how gamers will pay to play. Most MMOs use the subscription model – a flat monthly rate. Well during an Electronic Arts conference call, Chief Executive John Riccitiello bandied about a micro-transaction model for the title when referring it would be mid-session game.

You’re in control. All those abilities and spells at your disposal. An enemy is incoming. You start mashing buttons. You can’t really tell what your opponent is doing except that they are taking more damage as you spin around each other. Look! You parried an attack, but the notification was not from a visual clash but a textual cue. There is no visual mergence of hits and misses between opponents.
There is something naked if not hollow about MMOG combat. It’s an area BioWare wants to radicalize in Star Wars: The Old Republic. BioWare is approaching The Old Republic as the biggest and bad ass Star Wars game to date and combat is no exception. The team’s mantra is if you saw it in the movies then it should be in the game.

Soon, we might have to change this segment to Tuesday screens, with Jessica stranded (without an Internet connection) on the other side of the world in the picturesque locale of Hawaii. It has fallen to me to bring you the "Monday" screens, albeit belatedly due to being stuck in lectures and the like all day yesterday.
At least it is Monday somewhere in the world, right? This week - we've got a couple of treats hidden within our collection of shiny new screenshots including a sneak peek of the interface for the Xbox 360 version of Left 4 Dead, and some shiny fantasy wallpapers from Runes of Magic. Another highlight is some concept art from the upcoming BioWare and LucasArts collaboration - Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The suspense was killer - the rumors finally confirmed FOR REAL this time. Star Wars: The Old Republic is the first MMO for BioWare Corp and the second Star Wars MMO for LucasArts. The setting occurs thousands of years before the rise of Darth Vader when war between the Old Republic and Sith Empire divides the galaxy. More specifically three hundred years after Knights of the Republic II.
Players will pledge their allegiance to either the Republic or the Empire and can play as Jedi, Sith and or pick from multiple subclasses very familiar to the iconic Star Wars roles in the films. Every player will have their own personal story and choices will help unravel it. Continue reading for what some of the bigwigs from both BioWare and LucasArts had to say about this monumental announcement.

What some say is one of the worst kept secrets in game development history is likely to be announced at an upcoming event on October 21st, so mark your calendars for October 22nd.
The snazzy invites sent to select media outlets display “The wait is over” on the front and “The official unveiling of the game that’s been rumored about for years” on the back. Hah, so much for keeping the title shrouded in mystery.
