What have the gaming public been buying this week via digital distribution platform Steam? A whole lot of RPG, it seems. Borderlands is leading the charge this week, but its broken up a little bit by Left 4 Dead 2. Both versions of Dragon Age: Origins (a deluxe and a standard version) also sold well, and the top five was somehow rounded out by ... wait for it - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The mind boggles.

If you want to what else sold the most last week, you'll just have to check out the Steam Top Sellers for the week ending October 26th!

ArmA II gets patched thanks to Steam
An update to the military simulation game, ArmA II has been released via Steam, with the update introducing a number of fixes to a few very specific areas of the game.

The latest update sees some "Major" AI tweaking - which should make the game a little bit fairer, with the enemy AI having less sensitive hearing than before. Other changes include many improvements to the multiplayer and cooperative campaign game type, with saving games, and connection issues now allegedely behaving better. Finally, a number of fixes have been made to the Harvest Red campaign, which should make playing said campaign all the more enjoyable.

As always, a restart of your Steam client will make sure that the update is downloaded. Otherwise, it should just download automatically.

Gamers are all still fascinated by what's been selling (or not) on Steam, and by the 15-minute walkthrough of Mafia 2, narrated by Denby Grace. We also got information that Episodes from Liberty City will be released in October, just after Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

ArmA II: 1.02.58134 update, not so Steamy
If you've purchased a copy of ArmA II via Steam, you can ignore this post.

If, however, you picked up your copy of the game through some other means, then make sure you're up to date with a copy of the 1.02.58134 patch. Sources tell me the Steam version has already been updated with this, so let's assume the mis-matched update won't affect online multiplayer.

It's also not recommended that you use savegames created in 1.00 or 1.01, by the way - nice work there, Bohemia.

ArmA II: a surprise demo released from Chernarus
There's been a bit of fuss over ArmA II - whether or not Australian gamers can get their sweaty mitts on the title, whether it's a decent release, and whether or not there will be a demo for the game.

Tonight, I can answer one of those questions! Yes, there is a demo - and yes, we have it here for you! A whopping 2.8GB download will get you a sample version of Chernarus, complete with Boot Camp to get you started, a Singleplayer example, some Multiplayer experiences and even a brief Mission Editor.

While the quality of the game's still being discussed, and the Australian release date seems to be one of the great unanswered questions, at least you'll be able to get in some Armed Assault, even if it's not the whole thing just yet.

ArmA II: Out now, with bonus 1.02 update
Despite all sorts of fun and games about when it was actually going to be released, ArmA II is out right now, just waiting for you to play it (unless you were planning on picking it up via Steam, in which case you've still got some time to twiddle your thumbs).

But first! You cannot go rushing blindly into the arms of this assault! You'll need something to take with you - and I suggest this 1.02 patch, plucked fresh this morning, and providing multiple improvements, bugfixes and tweaks for your gameplay. Trust me, you'll be better off for it, even if it does come with the warning that it may not work so well with savegames created in 1.00 or 1.01. Sorry.

ArmA II release date gets pushed forward ... again!
An update to the ArmA II product website has revealed that the game will be brought forward again, and is now due for release on the 19th of June. While many retailers and other distributors of the game haven't yet reflected this change in their indexes (for example, the game is listed on Steam as coming out on the 30th of June, still) the date seems reliable, as it comes directly from the source.

ArmA II is a military simulation that focuses on realistic physics, and is based on the Real Virtuality engine, which is used by the Australian, British, and U.S. forces to train real troops.
