We first heard about Dark Void at the 2008 E3 Media & Business Summit. Since then, Capcom have released a flurry of information regarding their unique blend of aerial and "on foot" combat, including the tasty morsel back in April that composer Bear McCreary (of Battlestar Galactica soundtrack fame) would be handling the audio.
Today, we've gotten our hands on a new developer diary that discusses some of the design mentality of the game in realative depth, along with remarks from Keiji Inafune, Capcom head of Research and Development.

When it was announced at E3 last year, Damnnation, an all-new-shooter from Codemasters promised to not be just another damn shooter, because it would introduce a new element not often seen in shooters - verticality.
Allowing the player complete freedom to move through all three dimensions obviously posed some design issues to the development team. Firstly, all three axis would need to be represented as gameplay design elements, the x,y and z, and this would need to be conducted right from the get-go - how was this achieved? It's all explained in this new trailer that focuses on the level design of the game, which is due to be released, in Australia, on the 28th of May.

High Voltage Software, during E3 this year, announced a little title for the Nintendo Wii by the name of Conduit. To be published by Sega, the game intends to trump the opinion that the Wii games catalogue is directed mainly at younger gamers. A futuristic first person shooter, The Conduit utilises "new game engine technology", which will bring "remarkable visuals and effects" to the Wii.
Set in Washington D.C. The Conduit will recount a dark narrative following a "vicious alien invasion". An organisation going by the name of The Trust, sends in a Secret Service Agent (Mr. Ford) who is tasked with fighting an alien insect-like race known as the "The Drudge". Mr. Ford, armed with an "array of futuristic weaponry and an intelligence gathering device" known as the "All Seeing Eye", players will experience conspiracy, shady government dealings and terrifying aliens.

Way back during E3 this year, Microsoft announced what appears to be their version of the Singstar franchise, Lips. Today, Microsoft have announced the entire set list for Lips which includes a total of forty tracks.
It is a bit of an odd selection of tracks, but there seems to be something for most music lovers - though I don't think metal heads (such as myself) will be overly impressed. All up, it is a pretty "safe" track listing, and includes the likes of Queen, Depeche Mode, Beyoncé, The Cure, Dido and many more.

At E3 2008, Microsoft released an open letter to members of the Xbox LIVE online community. In it, a large number of features were detailed, which are set to enhance the "Xbox Experience". While no date was set for these changes, Xbox 360 owners will remember the recent maintenance that was carried out about a fortnight ago.
Today, at the Tokyo Game Show, Microsoft have announced that the new "Xbox Experience" will be available on Thursday, November the 19th. Which is, amusingly enough, a Wendesday in Australia. The new "Xbox Experience" will introduce three key new features, along with a number of technical enhancements.

2008 has been a little different from the standard industry year, in that we’ve seen a lot of major titles released outside of the holiday shopping season. Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots were all released in the first half of the year. One would think that that might make for a less than stellar holiday line up, but the game publishers of the world (bar Nintendo) are inclined to prove otherwise.
Over the next two weeks (due to the sheer number of releases), The Warp Pipe will be boldly predicting the quality of new games in the next quarter.

In the gaming world, E3 was a long time ago. Many of the games we'd heard about then have had little news emerge as of late. Legendary, (formerly Legendary: The Box) was a title that sparked my attention due to the unique plot concept. However, my hopes were (somewhat) dashed by the fact that development team Spark Unlimited were responsible for the abomination Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.
Regardless, Spark Unlimited do seem to be onto something with Legendary. Set in an alternate present where the horrors of Pandora's box are unleashed upon the civilised world, Legendary depicts an assault on humanity lead by mythical creatures and beasts. Today, we've got a new behind the scenes trailer, which offers an insight into the development process of the game.

While most of us didn't get a chance to pop over to Los Angeles for this year's E3, a gentleman by the name of mrread did. This is good for us, because he happens to be a writer, and (among other things) he happens to have checked out Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II while he was over there.
Now that he's back, he's been pestered by gamers, wanting to know exactly what the game has in store, and what they can expect from the sequel. He might not have all the answers, but he's managed to round up a few, and piece together an E3 Preview of the game, just for you, the hungry masses.
Remember, he's new here. If you like what you see, make sure you make him feel welcome!

E3 saw a few revelations regarding Resident Evil 5. The first of these was that the game would not be set in utter darkness, with attempts made to terrify the player in broad daylight. Secondly, the setting would be moving to Africa, introducing the player to larger environments.
Capcom have released a trailer that illustrates just this, showing off some of the larger gameplay areas along with (wait for it) - some apparent vehicle sequences. Before you get too disturbed - perhaps it is best you check out the new trailer.

Sony are firm in their belief that everything needs to be bigger to be better - and, as a result, have announced the new 80GB PlayStation 3, replacing the 40GB model.
As announced at this year's E3, the new model features all of the same functionality and features as the current 40GB model, but with twice the storage space - so you can store all the games, music, photos, movies and other entertainment content for the same price - RRP AU$699.
(Not only that, but you'll get a DUALSHOCK 3 Wireless Controller thrown in, too!)

Virtually all video games these days come with a warning message explaining that the flashing lights may trigger a seizure or blackout in those people who have a sensitivity. Even before they get this label, the games are rigorously tested to ensure they meet certain standards, to try and avoid causing people to suffer. While we don't normally hear about it, and the Health and Safety Precautions booklet is often thrown out when the game is unboxed, the warning is something that all game manufacturers must keep in mind.
I'd imagine that Sony will be paying a little more attention to the regulations as their long-awaited PSN release of WipEout has just been delayed - the game failed its recent epilepsy tests, and now requires re-engineering.

While Sony's press conference at E3 this year was quiet, a few new titles popped up to my suprise that I was honestly not expecting. One of these announcements surrounded Resistance: Retribution, a new game for the PSP.

If you already didn't think the music party game genre was packed enough, Konami have released more details on their upcoming title Rock Revolution at this year's E3 Media & Business Summit. Coming out on PS3, Xbox 360, DS and Wii, they are looking to come to be the headline of the party, but will they get in the door? We have the info on what they have to offer.
Now before you start asking how could they possible stand a chance coming in so late, keep in mind that Konami have had years of experience in this market. They are the kings of the music rhythm game and it has been said (many gamers, critics, reviewers and industry professionals) that their games brought new life into the dying arcades. Of course I'm speaking about DDR, BeatMania, GuitarFreaks and Karaoke Stage.

This will be a post full of acronyms, so I'll give you a bit of a cheat sheet to get you started:
KoTOR is Knights of the Old Republic, a title based on the Star Wars universe.
MMO is Massively Multiplayer Online, as it relates to games that a lot of people can play online at once, in a persistent world.
EA is Electronic Arts, a video game publisher.
A-OK is a saying, derived from "Okay" and used in diving, meaning "Everything's good, we can proceed".
So: KoTOR MMO by EA is A-OK!
(To translate - EA has announced that BioWare is currently working on the next version of Knights of the Old Republic, and that it will contain a massively multiplayer online component.)

The aftermath of the huge amount of trailers we got from yesterday is here. While there isn't as many, it's all about quality today at E3 Media & Business Summit. Unfortunately because of all the good trailers, my 'I want' is getting a little too big.
Today we are faced with a new dawn. While my friend will scream FOR THE EMPEROR and join you speedily racing towards it. It might not be the best idea, for the dark side is close and the wrath of war is coming. Are you prepared? Maybe these videos will help.

"We're making Pikmin." Three words. That's all it took for Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto to announce the third title in the franchise, first started back in 2002 for the GameCube.
At the Nintendo Developer Round Table, he was asked whether or not he was still interested in making another Pikmin title, as he'd mentioned in the past.
"...when it's time to announce such a title, I'll announce it. So please look forward to it," he stated, before clarifying - "We're making Pikmin."
In an E3 full of lack-lustre announcements, disappointing reveals and yawn-worthy press conferences, has Nintendo just shed a beam of sparkling light upon gamers?

Following a series of announcements from Capcom that emerged from the E3 Media & Business Summit yesterday, we've uncovered another title which disappeared from the radar. Dark Void does in fact disappear from the radar, following a plane crash in the Bermuda Triangle.

We all know that last year's QuakeCon heralded the first we'd heard of Rage, the new project from id Software, to be published by EA, but apparently that wasn't the only major new title that was sneakily announced at the convention. Part of Activision's "not-E3" announcements yesterday centred around Wolfenstein, which we'd heard whispers about at QuakeCon, but nothing more since.
Now, it seems it's official - id Software's upcoming Wolfenstein is a co-development partnership between Endrant Studios and old favourites Raven Software, to be published by Activision Blizzard.
But just what is it? ...we've got a small handful of details and a few screens from the game, plus a teaser trailer to share with you that should shed some light on the topic.

So naturally when you're in trouble you call for help, and who was I gonna call? I tried to get in touch with a few comic book superheroes online, but they were no help. So instead I decided to go in full force and end this war of my hard decision.

One title which has me drooling currently is the information-sparse Bayonetta from Sega. With only a couple of images coming out of the E3 Media & Business Summit, (thus far!), it has prompted me to do some research into this title.
As a result - we've uncovered a trailer from eariler this year, and some promises on what we can expect from Bayonetta, which is directed by Hideki Kamiya of Resident Evil and Devil May Cry fame.
While any actual information about any gameplay, setting or the like is incredibly sparse - the teaser trailer is enough to make me want this game. And not just want it 'sometime', I want it Now.

While Activision aren't technically part of this year's E3 Summit, they're still in LA, and they're still holding a press conference, and I'm feeling generous, so we'll give them some liveblogging attention as well. While we're waiting for the feed, why don't you have a bit of a think. Activision have revealed a few biggish titles recently, so what do you think we'll be seeing? I'm expecting to see a lot of Guitar Hero, a lot of CoD: World at War, probably some Spider-Man too. Who knows what else is in store?

What's black, white and red all over? The new video for Madworld! When I first heard about this game I had Gary Jules (or Tears for Fears) singing in my head for awhile. But then I actually read up on the E3 info about this game, it is bloody. That is the only way to describe it.
The second thought into my head, after the song finally went away, was "Why can I see this being banned or removing the red colour". If this game was in full graphics it would probably be pretty gruesome. However in the style of No More Heroes, it has some humour to its madness.

The second major press conference of the night belongs to Sony, who round out the Big Three platform presentations at each E3. This year, it's due to start at 4am Adelaide time (adjust accordingly if you're not in our time zone), and we're getting ready for that, too (I'm trying to see if I can fit a catnap in the middle there...)
Ignant has no time for napping, he's currently running around Los Angeles frantically snapping photos, taking notes, shaking hands and looking at all the pretty pretty games. We're hoping he can drag himself away for long enough that he can send us some updates!
Until then, what do you want to see from Sony at this year's E3? What do you think they'll pull out of their hat? A third God of War? Some brightly coloured gameplay footage (and maybe a date) from Gran Turismo 5? Yet another different model PS3?

Somehow, we're still awake, and we're gearing up for another bunch of publisher press conferences, live from E3 tonight. First off the blocks is Nintendo, who kick off proceedings at 1:30am (Adelaide time), and we've got the energy drinks and lollies ready to keep us burning the midnight oil.
Again, Ignant is actually in Los Angeles at these events, so we're hoping to add some photos and impressions to the blog, too.
So - what are you expecting from Nintendo this year? Will we see the new DS that is constantly being rumoured? What about Wii Music? Will it finally see the light of day? What's in store for the Wii Balance Board? ...time will tell, so pop in and stick around for all the fun and festivities, when we bring you all the news that's fit to print, with our live coverage from the Nintendo Press Conference at E3 2008.

With so many huge announcements last night, it's hard to think it's only the beginning. However Day 2 of the E3 Media & Business Summit is here, bringing some trailers I just know you have been waiting for.
Headlining Day 2 is a trailer that runs on the edge and we just hope it doesn't fall down and out. That would be tragic, just like a whole zone just killed. Didn't that happen once before? Oh well enough worrying like that, on with the show!

Yet another title which was announced sometime ago has passed unnoticed by not only our sonar is Hydrophobia. A bucketful of information has surfaced for this game through the E3 Media & Business Summit, and it looks very interesting - not only technologically, but also in terms of its plot, which draws heavy inspiration from the work of 17th century academic Thomas Malthus.
Developed by Blade Interactive, Hydrophobia is set aboard the 'Queen of the World', a massive naval vessel which is the one glimmer of hope for humanity following an unfolding of the theories of Malthus.
Fresh out of E3, We've got the first look trailer, a bunch of screenshots and some information on Hydrophobia which will see you grabbing for your life jackets, eager to take the plunge - I know I am.

You can be forgiven for thinking that little information exists regarding one of Midway's offerings known as The Wheelman. Despite the fact that the title was originally announced way back during E3 in 2006, not much has come to light since then.
... Fast forward to now and the E3 Media & Business Summit and we've managed to pilfer a fact sheet along with some shiny new screenshots.
The Wheelman is a collaboration between Midway, Tigon Studios and Paramount Pictures. Vin Desel stars as the central character to both game and film (with the film to be a sequel to the game) as an undercover agent and driver for hire.

In one of TheMeadow's recent Now Playing features, a title I hadn't heard anything about piqued my interest a little based on the brief information he mentioned. Legendary: The Box is an all new IP developed by Spark Unlimited.
The premise for Legendary: The Box, is a very interesting one indeed. Charles Deckard, an art thief is convinced to steal (and open!) Pandora's Box. Y'know, that mythical 'box' which is actually a jar (due to a mistranslation) that contains all the evils of mankind.
Set for release on the PC, PS3 and the Xbox 360, Legendary: The Box contemplates a war that develops between myth and man following the opening of Pandora's Box. E3 has seen a flurry of new screenshots and trailers released for Legendary: The Box, and we've got all the information ready for you.

Dungeon Hero is an upcoming action RPG from Firefly Studios who are known for their development of the Stronghold series. As with a lot of other developers and publishers - what better time than the E3 Media & Business Summit to release a bunch of updated info on their work?
Releasing in Autumn 2009 for PC and Xbox 360, Dungeon Hero will be the 'first dungeon-based to realistically depict underground life'.
So - what is it exactly that sets Dungeon Hero apart from other 'dungeon games' as Rick Stults, Console Chief of Gamecock Media Group claims? In addition to collection of screenshots released for E3, we've got a bunch of information and a developer diary.

Apparently, despite all the fuss that's going on in LA, in some places, the world just keeps turning. We've got not one, but three new game updates available via Steam this morning - RACE 07, Audiosurf and Garry's Mod.
They're of varying sizes (poor little Audiosurf only gets a one line changelog!), but they're all very important and will improve your gaming immensely. How do I know that? I'm just good, I guess.

The E3 Media & Business Summit 2008 is always an opportunity for titles that may have slipped under the radar previously to some some noise and be noticed. One such title is Dark Horizon from developers Paradox Interactive.
Set for release on PC, Dark Horizon is a new space combat simulation focusing on (as the name implies) 'stark and atmospheric space combat simulation'.
As a part of E3, Paradox Interactive have released a bunch of new screenshots for Dark Horizon.

With E3 starting up one game on my hit list to find out more of was Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Combing the two worlds into one fighting game and forcing friends against foes, heroes against heroes, evil versus evil; this game is bringing a new twist on an old genre with some familiar faces.
We just got in a fact sheet with some more details about the game as well as a brand new video. With the only confirmed characters as Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Superman and Batman, this new trailer shows off some more of your favourites in action as well as some of the new game modes.

Keeping to traditions set in years past, the first event of this year's E3 Media & Business Summit is the Microsoft Press Conference (technically, it's actually before the Summit even starts!).
Ignant is there in person, frantically taking notes, but we're awake way past my bedtime, and are warming up the LiveBlogging software so we can bring you the latest news as it happens on the other side of the world.
What do you think we'll see? Early gossip suggests details on Gears of War 2, some information about Halo Wars, and apparently there's a couple of very decent surprises tucked in there, too. Mmm. Come join us!

I mentioned last week that Now Playing would have a nice little role for E3 and bring you something special. Every night this week, Now Playing will be bringing you some of the many, many trailers we receive this week from the E3 Media & Business Summit.
Leading off for this special event is a few heroes and villains in pieces, an original project that is a little fearful and an empire that seems to be, once again, experiencing war. Also we have a nice round up of all the other trailers that have caught our attention. Stay tuned sports fans as this week is only going to get more exciting!

It has been bitterly cold and wet in Melbourne this week, but fortunately I've been too busy to worry about freezing my butt off. We're all trying to clear our plates here before the E3 train hits us next week – a week of 2am starts for the home team, and a couple of days of madness for Ignant, who will be our man in the field at the show. I'm sure we'll have all sorts of exclusive information and kickass trailers (quota free for Internode users), so stay tuned for what should easily be the best local E3 coverage.
We're going to step away from the E3 hype for a bit, and take a look at the video game career of Batman, in celebration of this week's theatrical release of The Dark Knight.

Best known for her work on Assassin's Creed, Jade Raymond has just announced her new project, a new title - I Am Alive.
Set after an earthquake hits Chicago, I Am Alive is being labelled a "survival game", with a few major differences from the typical "survival-horror" titles we've been seeing waves of recently. You won't be trapped in the dark, beating up masses of scary things with great big weapons - instead, it's more like a first-person adventure title, with a low emphasis on weapons.

It's been a while since we've heard anything from Ubisoft about their upcoming flying/shooting title, Tom Clancy's HAWX - but today that's set to change.
If you've been interested in seeing what the in-game footage looks like for this new air combat title, you're in luck. We've got a new Developer Diary video for your viewing pleasure, and have followed that up with a couple of brand new screenshots.

Ah, it must be that time of year again... we've gotten our hands on Capcom's full lineup for this year's E3 Media & Business Summit, a week or so before the event starts.
Of course, there's a bunch of games here that shouldn't surprise you - Street Fighter IV, Bionic Commando, and Resident Evil 5, but they've thrown in a "super secret project" - Flock, tucked in at the bottom of the list.
