What will you remember 2008 for, in terms of gaming?
We asked some of the game admins and network staff to find out their thoughts, but here's a quick recap of the past 12 months, to refresh your memory.
Non-games dominated this year's charts, with Wii Fit rewarding gamers for standing still. As a country, we were still fans of the music game genre too, finally getting our hands on Rock Band, which seemed to have been pushed onto shelves by the release of Guitar Hero: World Tour a week later. Who knows, the full-band version may even have healed some hurt caused by the "interesting" yet awkward Guitar Hero: On Tour release for DS. There was a new Call of Duty to heed, a new Bond to meet, Marcus and Dom were back, and independent developers twisted our brains with Braid and our rhythm skills with Audiosurf. Red Alert was back, and we revisited the Midnight Club. We also saw the release of the "Three Fs" - Far Cry 2, Fable 2, and Fallout 3, meaning many gamers were a bit strapped for cash by the end of the year.
...and, who could forget? 2008 is the year we met Sackboy!

It would appear that using games as a potential advertising medium has today gained yet another ally, with Microsoft owned Massive Inc. coming to an agreement to include advertising in tandem with titles produced by Blizzard Entertainment.
Before your anger takes over, fret-not local citizens of Azeroth, as the advertising agreement will not enter the beloved virtual realm of World of Warcraft, but instead be placed on Blizzard's websites and be otherwise limited to BattleNet, which already contains advertisements for other Blizzard products.

For a long time, I’ve been a fan of James Bond. I’ve read the books, watched the films, but have never actually played a game based on the stories - a stance which may be about to change.
While in Los Angeles recently, we dropped in to visit with Treyarch - who are currently tidying the loose ends on their latest Bond game, the Xbox 360 / PS3 version of Quantum of Solace - and they very kindly let us have a look at their baby, and ask some questions of co-designer/directors Jeremy Luyties and Adam Gascoine.
We had the video camera with us again for this trip, so grab your popcorn, sit back and enjoy as we find out about Quantum of Solace.

This week has been huge for game releases and we have been getting in some amazing trailers to go with it. As another months draws to a close it brings us that little bit closer to the Christmas release list.
We head back to our past with a bear, a bird and a portable hedgehog? We look at things you can do off a board and we check back in with Delta Squad to see what gets their gears moving. We get a brief to the weapons from the war to end all wars and peek into a quantum world.

Activision have announced a release date for the upcoming Bond movie tie-in, Quantum of Solace. With the theatrical release of the film set for the 27th of November in Australia, and earlier in other parts of the world, it is a bit surprising to see that the game will before the film in many parts of the world.
Developed by Treyarch, and utilising the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Engine, the newest game instalment in the Bond universe has many fans hoping that it could be the next Goldeneye. Will this actually be the case? We'll have to wait and see - but wait... "Until when?!", you cry? Read on to find out!

The Holiday flood begins this Thursday with the release of an ungodly amount of games, including Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway, Crysis Warhead and Wipeout HD, and doesn’t stop until the week before Christmas. To save you all a bit of time, I like to run through the release list at the start of a given quarter, and make sweeping generalisations as to the quality of upcoming games.
Last week’s Warp Pipe covered the games of October, so this week we’re looking at November’s big hitters, including Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead and Mirror’s Edge.

Even though Now Playing usually tries to cover some of the better trailers for the week, this week was a little too packed and sometimes we get something that requires special mention.

So here we are at the final instalment of Games On Net’s coverage of Activate Asia 2008. After four days in the land of the Kiwi, many games were played, much beer consumed and surprisingly few sheep spotted (only one! And I could have sworn it was just a non-descript white blob in the distance...).
In our final article today, we’re going to take a look at the latest offerings from Sierra, with two new updates of some original Playstation classics, with Crash: Mind Over Mutant and The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon.

There seems to be a developing trend to our news content of late. Last night, in his coverage of Activate Asia 2008, Matt Williams discussed the upcoming Quantum of Solace from developer Treyarch. With the title to be the first James Bond title on "next gen" platforms, Quantum of Solace is proving to unique for a number of reasons, as outlined in the new trailer.
Outlining some of the steps taken by the development team in transitioning the film material into a video game, the new Quantum of Solace trailer provides an insight into the development process and some brief snippets of gameplay.

When the Nintendo 64 released in Australia, there was one title not starring a fat Italian plumber that no 64 gamer could be without. With its classic 4-player deathmatch and a unique approach to stealth gameplay, Goldeneye proved a tremendous success, both critically and commercially. Not only a fantastic movie adaptation, it is regarded by many as the best first person shooter of its generation. When James Bond returned to consoles in 1999 with Tomorrow Never Dies, fans would be left painfully disappointed and even today, left wondering when they would next be blessed with a James Bond outing to rival those ‘golden’ years. In 2006, the James Bond licence began afresh with Casino Royale. A more brutal, less gadget orientated super spy had been created and it was time for Electronic Arts to finally pass the licence on, with Activision ready and waiting to bring Bond to life.
In today’s instalment of Games On Net’s Activate Asia 2008 coverage, we’re going to take a look at the latest Bond title, Quantum of Solace, and see if Activision has what it take to deliver the Bond experience that fans have been craving. Keeping with the movie-to-game theme, we’ll also take a look the new kids’ titles, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Transformers Animated.

Well Day 3 is here and it hit hard. With a few poor press conferences overnight I was starting to think E3 was going to let me down this year. But some of the developers brought back my hope and delivered with some amazing trailers over night, so much so it was too hard to pick!
So naturally when you're in trouble you call for help, and who was I gonna call? I tried to get in touch with a few comic book superheroes online, but they were no help. So instead I decided to go in full force and end this war of my hard decision.
